MS3X Diode Wiring
I'm sorry if I missed it but I still can't find an answer to the 2nd question in my previous post. Namely, do pins 1, 9, and the pin for the A/C fan EACH have 2 wires connected to them? Or do each one of these pins ONLY connect to 12v?

That's because Frank apparently didn't get the memo... dont install diodes--install the wire to 12v and forget all about diodes. Then just worry about running 40-odd wires inside a case with no room for 40-odd wires... how many times do i have to say it? YOU DO NOT NEED TO INSTALL DIODES. a ms3x unit needs (3-4) modifications in order to make it run any 90-05 miata. 1. The (2) VR input jumpers and pull-up using the 1K to r13 and r45. 2. Pull-up from s12c to JS9 3. Flyback modification wire to s12 for the expander. 4. *OPTIONAL* 1K Pull-up to 5v for NB alternator. that's it. Then it's all harness assembly. The only difference between any MS3x I build is step 4 depending if I'm building it for an NB or not.

If you are using his alternator board no need for step 4. Just wire field on his board to spr4 amd then add spr4 to the harness like his diagram has.

Uhm, for realz? Did you open up the 200+ page MS3X V3.0 manual? And yes, I would use the on board alternator control. </p>

It is the "Miata Megasquirt building for dummies book".</p><p>Once you actually do some more reading and research then it becomes obvious, but a lot of people don't get that far. I know when I built my first megasquirt I didn't know what half the **** was, I just followed the steps. I've since learned a lot more.</p><p>Just explaining it from a noobs point of view.</p>

What I don't understand is why people follow 3rd party--and often old, wrong, and outdated--build guides instead of following the published manuals. We were begged to produce comprehensive .pdf manuals. It was a big endeavor. We did it. And no one reads them.</p>

I have a degree in electrical engineering, with a lot of focus on embedded programming and devices, and I struggled at the beginning (some would say I still do) its just a different level of stuff.</p><p>Pretend you didn't know what a resistor does and follow the guides, its not easy.</p>

<p>I mean look at OP Ben, he doesn't know how a fan output works. (No offense to OP). He had the diode wired in a way that renders the output completely useless. And potentially sends 12v where it might not want to be.</p><p>You work on megasquirt for a living, some people have art degrees <img alt="The Brain" src="https://www.miataturbo.net/images/smilies/the_brain.gif" style="height:32px; width:32px" title="The Brain" />. I tried to help a kid install his megasquirt the other day, and quit, because he just didn't care about understanding how it worked. Started freaking out when it wouldn't idle right. And this was an MS3 basic, I had to talk him out of building his own.</p>
I helped frank with his guide, but like ben said, part of the problem was keeping up.
I publish all my information, but it's hard to stay up-to-date. that why i didnt bother writing my own.
Then the next problem is, people start referencing old docs as bible. and you have people doing old out-dated methods of things. like building the Abe's VR conditioner circuit, or people pulling the SIG_START fuse when unnecessary, or adding in random diodes, lots of references to MS1 stuff.
frank's guide is pretty good for little hints and time-savers, but it's pretty outdated on a few accords at this point, and I still dont like the integrated harness thing.
basically, what it all boils down to is that im lazy.
