Rebuild all the salvage Miatas! ASS!
I'm getting seriously tired of jackass family members/friends on Facebook telling me I shouldn't get another Miata because they're "too dangerous for me" apparently.

I'm so damned sick of it.
Gonna start hitting the unfriend button pretty soon here which will **** some people off. Good.

Something more your speed might be a Ducatti Monster or a Hayabusa.

Be sure to tell the family members that. Hilarity should ensue.

Lol... The comment which spurred the rant was posted by a friend just after I shared a pic of a gorgeous Montego Blue NA:
"Don't do it. Just my opinion."
I flew off the handle mentally, then asked her to clarify. She said:
"Lol. Don't buy THIS car. Only because it looks too sexy to drive and I can't bare the thought of it flying through the air and crashing with you guys inside it. PTSD."
Crisis averted, I guess. But still. The worst comment was from my mother in law:
"You are both too old for this dangerous childish behavior!!! You have people who dearly love you both and count on you to stay alive. Con Amor!"
My response:
"Driving on a wet road isn't exactly childish behavior in my view, but I digress. Again, can't let fear paralyze life! It was a simple car accident. Just so happened to be in a car that is very important to me."
To be fair, they do have something of a point... I stopped riding dirt bikes after I got in a really bad accident which shattered my right ankle and snapped my collar bone. Now I deal with constant daily pain from that ankle -- never goes away.
I took up street bikes. Got rear ended by a truck going 60 MPH in a 45 zone. Miraculously wasn't killed, didn't even have a broken bone, but had internal bleeding and such. ER doctor said to my parents "I've seen lucky before, but never like this."
So I took up Miatae, and look where that got me

Maybe you should take up skydiving?

PS I freaking love you guys. I especially love the following tag on my thread:
"vtek kicked in (again) yo"
"vtek kicked in (again) yo"
step 1: ignore facebook
step 2: let CSTG ease your life
step 3: purchase clean but not too clean stock miata.
step 4: enjoy stock miata life while step 2 finishes
step 5: ease into tuning with MS
step 6: ease into boost with properly tuned setup.
I'm 99% sure you crashed, your dad crashed, and JC's complaints were in a good deal due to your tune. JC kept praising how fun the boost-than-shift characteristics of your car were, but quite frankly something that hits that hard that late is not a well tuned vehicle.
I'm also 99% sure both accidents were also extremely closely related to the bald RS3s in rain.

I know you didn't drive the car much but it really had a wiiiide torque curve. The boost-then-shift is due to 6-speed + 4.1 + lots o power.
The tune wasn't great, but once above idle it really wasn't bad.
The cold-hardened, heat-cycles RS3s though... Yeah. And my dad just straight up ignored my instructions. I told him throttle only when totally straight. He gave it some throttle when it wasn't straight and oopsies.
Anyway, I really really really like your plan otherwise. Yes.

Ed it is raining in Southern Utah right now. I'm finding it terribly difficult to not go start my car and have shenanigans. Luckily I've had similar thoughts in the past that have taught me to just wait it out and go drink a beer.
But still...potential fun would be amazing.

And, I would add, make it a priority to participate in organized track events that include quality instruction. You'll have a lot more fun. So will your Dad. Möbius, Curly and others must have some recommendations for your area.
He was last instructed by either Mobius or GreddyGalant, I forget which. Both have lots of Miata seat time, and are +/- 10ishhp from 200. He did well, just needed repetition, but as we all know boost never helps you learn proper driving until much later.

I bought a car, had it tuned, then promptly went to two track events as soon as it's on the road... I'd say that's not TOO bad. Keep in mind: this car was only on the road sorted as of the last week of August.
Nial was my instructor for 2 sessions, then Richard came with me for a session, then I went solo my last session. My plan was to go back next year with less power and grip and learn how to really drive. I'll still be doing that, in a different car this time.
I'm REALLY liking that M. I hope it's still available when I'm ready. If so, he will probably be more open to my low ball offer too

The fact that my car, on low boost, had more power than could be handled WOT in 3rd gear in a tight bend (pushing it in 4th too) makes confidence tough to come by. That and my flex-o-matic driver seat.
I can't wait to get back on the track with something more manageable. Whoo wee. I brought up the M to my wife today. Working towards her being OK with me buying something before Christmas.

I definitely don't need more power (greddygalant can attest to this) I just enjoy all the projects that come with the turbo. I'll probably be wiring my waste gate open for the first few track days next year.
