Yeap. I have never had grey permatex leak. I used "the right stuff" black for my oil pan twice. First time was fine, second time it leaked after a few months. It was super easy to apply since it was in a pressurized can, but leaking isn't cool. So back to the perfect record grey RTV for me. I use that for everything on the motor, it's either gasket or grey rtv.

None of my Hondaboi friends have any hondabond on hand. So will be going with gray RTV.

The grey stuff has always worked flawlessly for me as well. We used to use it on rotarys where the intake porting removed part of the water jacket seal.

How long does Ultra Gray last in a tube? I found the big tube of it I used in 2010 when I last sealed an oil pan.

That's just one of those textbook PITA situations where you have to weigh the cost vs. the risk if there is trouble with it later. I usually just go for a new tube if it's something critical (like a pan), and save the dregs of whatever old tube I've got hanging around for less critical stuff (i.e. easy to access/redo type stuff).

I agree with you. I am going to buy some new gray rtv tomorrow. I don't want to deal with using the old giant bottle.

Oil temp and oil drain fittings are welded onto the pan. My welds look horrible, but they should hold fine. Plan is to install the oil pan pump and pan tomorrow afternoon.

You asked for them. These were taken with a potato last night with no concern for how the pictures turned out. The amount of cleaning I did was splash some acetone on a rag and rub it around a little.

As someone who's welding skills leave much to be desired, I have to say that those welds are just about the ugliest I have ever seen.

I disagree. They have a lot of junk on them, but the actual beads look somewhat uniform. Hit them with a wire brush and you will be surprised. Making aluminum welds look good on dirty cast aluminum is really hard.

You obviously did not see the welds on Tuning Done Rights first NC turbo manifold. I have welded aluminum about 6 times in my life. 4 of them doing beads on an aluminum sheet, 1 testing welding IC pipes together, and now this. So yes it is ugly, but should more then hold for what I need it to do.

Hit them with a wire brush? You sir are cray cray, I am going to throw some used oil over the welds to help them not to be seen. Throw the pan back on the motor and get it in a car. To never worry about the bungs again.

*minor stroke*

Dremmel with a sanding barrel would take care of that in 5 minutes.

Nononono. Don't go grinding away on a weld. Clean it off with a wire brush.

What is a wire brush? FaeFora gave me a few tools when I picked up his car. Will one of these things work?
