Dang, I tried to upload this brand new Miata pic and claim, detail and paint correction, but it doesn't like the format.

I told you before, he is gone, do not make me use some foolish euphemism!

Anyway, I always keep up on fluid changes, how else could my original 250k block have lasted through a bent rod and still have a cherry crank.

Time for a detail and paint correction.

Is there one of these that explodes?

Is an rx7 turboII/FD transmission and adapter plate not an upgrade option?

But I think we would know about it, perhaps not.

The way I see it, there are only two options, $3Kmiata eeyourow swap or a 6 speed and diff swap.

Here's where the old me seems to be, "gone." I plan to reduce the boost/timing a little in the mid-range.
For now...

Or.... you could swap in a 6 speed and ponder the diff for a while. Or buy both and swap in because easy button.

https://www.miataturbo.net/miata-par...a-71777/page2/ That's what I was thinking of but looks like he's no longer responsive. That said- it reads like he's just calling on the machine shop to make them. IF somebody knew the machine shop, I bet you could just call in and ask for it to be cut/made. Maybe somebody here (who bought one) knows theshdwconspracy? or the machine shop?

I only mentioned it because I picked up a 60k mile FD transmission complete with shifter for $385 from Mazmart. Hybrid (RX7/miata) drive shaft was $150. I need to fab up a PPF adapter. Wonder what a fabricator would charge for that.

I just wondered if there was a reason it wasn't a good option- though I guess that's because it's not bolt-in.

It is alot of work with little documentation. I think that is a large part of it.

I found the adapter plate: https://www.maverick-motorsports.com...-adapter-plate Pricey but nice piece for sure.

It's documented, just ancient. A little more work than just bolt in. This guy was one of the first big power Miatas that put this trans in his Miata:
TII tranny into Miata!!

You're looking for a turbo II trans, drive shaft, Miata clutch disc with 1" 23 spline center, adapter plate and then an adapter to go between the ppf and trans OR a trans/diff support setup. Most of these deleted the ppf (like yank). That last part may be the real obstacle since there was never a bolt in solution produced. But that's about $1200 for everything but the solution for PPF adapter or trans/diff support.

This guy just had a shop "put" a Miata "bell housing" on the front of the turbo II trans. https://www.miataturbo.net/diy-turbo...95/#post204681

Y tho?

No hugely substantial improvement from a miata 6 speed and worse gear ratios. Miata 6 speed seems like a million times easier.

Wrong- a hugely substantial improvement. Mazda R box is much larger/stronger. Ratios- first and second are not that bad and 5th is a huge improvement. I don't see the 6 speed lasting much longer in SOTH's Miata.

some don't

The car is fun again!

Was the bell housing from an automatic? I have a junk 5 speed I can pull the tail housing off, if that could be swapped on... Maybe swap the output shaft/bearings to get the right spline.

Maybe one day when I am bored, right now, I just want to drive my car. Hopefully I won't break it before Wednesday, but if so, I got another 5 speed.

Ok I read it, sounds like more experimentation is necessary. 89 Ford ranger 5 speed

@18psi I'd argue (just not in SOTH's thread) the R trans is far more than a 5% improvement over the 5/6 spd in strength and the ratios are better than the six speed for a boosted Miata.
That site/page was from one of the first people to do the conversion. Aside from a PPF adapter, the rest is all bolt in now.

Feel free to argue with 18 in my thread.

I am honestly thinking about cryo treating some of the internals with my new unpatented process, at least I will have some spare parts.

I am just going to drive, I have another 5 speed to use after this one. Perhaps I will consider a tranny solution for next year.

Oh I could care less about arguing. You can argue till blue in the face but the fact remains that almost no one is doing those swaps, and if it was as good as they say then everyone would hop onto the bandwagon.

There's like a handful of guys that have done this, vs like a few dozen that "were totally going to do it" until they did their homework. That speaks volumes

As an old rotary guy myself, one thing does come to mind, we never made much torque with those things. Now those old 4cyl 5 speed Ford rangers, unbelievably reliable for what they were.
