As whole not people are doing transmission swaps at all in Miatas. As far as handful of swaps, sure if that's equal to a dozen or so. There were two in Tampa at Miatapalooza. There's three here- Mightmouse, Greek, Shdwconspracy- four if you count Yank. None of those guys have grenaded their boxes (yet).

I'm not completely sure how good they say they are. The rotary guys regard them as 400ftlbs max, which is about a 500+ hp rotary. Far more stronger than 5% over the 5spd. The R trans has significantly larger gears, thicker/stronger shafts, and stiffer/better case design than the 5 spd.- with not much more weight or size. Mazda used this transmission in all it's larger passenger and (non-US import) commercial vehicles.

I assume the PPF adapter or trans/diff mount is too complicated for anybody who is considering the swap and then decides not to do it. Those who are capable end up doing it and their trans last, probably because that's enough to handle the typical higher boost Miata build.

The Ford rangers, broncos and F150s used a variant of the R/Type 3 transmission during the period that Ford had controlling interest in Mazda- is that the intended reference?

I'm going to use one because I have a bolt-up solution for the F block, can use my current pp, will only need to fab up the PPF adapter, and it will be sufficient for my torque.

Here's what I am gonna do pull my junk front and rear housing from the broke tranny, even though it can't afford to lose that stuff. Homeless tranny, NMFP, new homes for a good tranny, perhaps, way down the road, good tranny

Never mind drunken SOTH again

12.9 @ 110 on a couple of gentle tuning passes.

Sorry Marcello, I messed up the video trying to edit it somehow. Next week should be better.

How quickly do I need to keep E85 moving through, does it matter?

I mean, basically the blue high power Pinto, I know the car, bounced around the end of the 1/4 mile. I am not sure if it was a mechanical failure or some kind of contamination of the track, or perhaps too much power.

I didn't see it, but some of the young folks who want to ask about my car were watching. They said the car bounced off both sides and was airborne at one point. I think the other car was already clear when it bounced back. My heart goes out to his folks.

Pure speculation here, but it's also possible that the driver had some kind of medical emergency while driving (heart attack, stroke, that kind of thing).

A perfectly reasonable hypothesis, he was not what I would call a young guy.

Whatever the case it's a pretty great way to go at that age. Clearly he was a passionate car guy! Far better than a long drawn out illness. Maybe it's a younger guys perspective but at 70-75 I feel he had a great journey and was not cheated of time.

I totally agree, more like an our age guys perspective, I think. He died doing what he loved.

Sounds like his brake locked up on one of the wheels somehow.

Somehow I managed to disintegrate my PS belt on a tuning pull today. I have thrown it off a few times at the drag strip but never on the street before. Oh well, at least it didn't go through my radiator or something.
