ok so pornography time.
I actually kept my first EFR6258 (as in, haven't sent it in for replacement YET). So I can compare old EFR6258 to new EFR6758
First of all, ALL HAIL INTACT TURBINE WHEEL in it's Gamma-Ti glory


Then, turbine housings. This is one area that changed, and imho, got worse. Before it was gorgeous now it's a bit worse. There are casting marks and it just doesn't look as sexy anymore.


Wastegate are in particular was smoother before. I'll probably polish the new housing a bit to make it smoother.


Slight, minor differences everywhere

Area around turbine wheel is machined and is same, though.


Awesome CHRA with mega-super-awesome bearings and stuff.

Old vs new. Old compressor wheel ingested some shavings early in it's life (i'm sorry...) so there's that. Lesson learned - keep compressor housing clean and filter ON.

Compressor housings haven't changed slightest bit - other than the fact that they are for different wheels

6758 housing with 6258 compressor wheel shows the size diffeerence pretty clearly. It's not much but good enough to change 'rated' hp from 400 to 450.




The hole is for the speed sensor, which I got for free (winning!)


The box is a "speed converter" box. It's like $60 and converts a square wave signal into 0-5V reading, 5V being 200'000 RPM. It's made specifically for EFR speed sensor and comes with with nice sleeved connectors. Me likey. It was also a freebie.

And just some compressor wheel pornography.

That's a lot of triggering at 200,000rpm. No wonder they used that circuit, no ECU will be able to handle ~33,000 interrupts per second just for the speed sensor of the turbo.

yes, MS can log a bunch of 0-5v inputs. Almost any EMS can log analog 0-5v inputs.

Oh so you could write it to be as awesome as you wanted. Any where between a closed loop control that reduces the EBC boost target to switching to a conservative boost table if the value is exceeded. Or something.
could have a setting to automatically submit an RMA request if turbine spins over 300k or something
