Hell, its almost done. I realized I need to more pistons/rods for the table ends :P
I DID just get my ecus back though, had a local go snag them for me. They sort of disappeared into the mist for awhile. Long story short, good guy was helping me with them, had some hiccups along the way, but in the end I still have ECUs.
My house projects are basically done, job is going well, winter is dedicated to Miata build.
I have NOT given up on the build, just a heads up

Ohhh, some LEDs down in the cylinder water jackets would be purty! Good idea!
Ecus have were snagged back for me and are on their way in the mail. I'll have to buy a reflash or get Osiris Tuner package or something now though.
Next few weeks are me prepping a friends car that I'm driving in an event in um... 17 days. So that takes priority. Hopefully I have progress (ie: more than just taking stuff apart) in the next month?

updates please? considering this same swap, have a vq in the shop i have 600 bucks into it.. 50k miles out of a altima though, i figured relocate oil filter, and fab up some motor mounts for it and it would sitting the right way. i also have a 350z 6 speed transmission. seems like alot of hard work and time thats for sure. im waiting til the 1.6 dies to decide.

I was to the point of my swap and had the angle grinder sitting on the edge of the finder. I sat there and thought a little to much. I decided it wasn't worth it once I discovered the screwed rod/crank. My biggest issues were the revhard flash program, oil filter location and steering rack location pertaining to the front sump Vq engine. I just knew that would loose the front part of the subframe that holds the steering rack and possibly have to move the rack forward some. Maybe my dimensions were off. But, I just couldn't do it to my car.
Anyways, it would be a great swap theoretically.
Once I sold off my Vq parts I started looking at some of the new domestic v6's. That new camaro motor would be insane to swap. And there is tons of support for them or there will be once people are past their factory warranties.

I plan on loosing almost the entire center of the subframe except enough to hold the steering rack (probably custom front bracket to get every centimeter. Oil filter will be remote with an Accusump plumbed in (got a deal on one). Reflash will cost 4-600 with a tune, so it isn't really bad. The reflash/tune really is worth it on any VQ anyways.
I toy with selling everything off, buying a FR-S or BRZ.... shooting more... but then I realize I'd be leaving a plain silly project behind... so I will still build it.

I really want to see this completed!! Pic updates!!
I say this specifically because I have a friend that abandoned a 2003 350Z motor and transmission (as well as a 350Z ECU, wiring harness, and E-Manage ULTIMATE) swap he was going to do on his 1989 240sx. I could probably get all of this from him for $1k. I am really conflicted at this point, considering I wish to do one of the following:
1. This very set up (my dream come true, I love this motor!!)
2. Greddy turbo kit
3. Subaru WRX's TD04 turbocharger on my 1.6
4. LSX swap (I would have to hide ALOT of money from my wife. She would kill me if I spent 15k + on a swap I don't need!)
I would love to know what entails with such a swap, what fitment issues you might have run into, what parts needed replacing, etc. If you were closer to my hometown, I would be more than willing to drop down and work on it with you. I love crazy swaps!
Also, this might be a silly statement, but when you finally do get the engine and tranny and everything else except the hood installed (because you'll likely have fitment issues, I've heard by about 3 inches), hood risers might help with fitment.
