Whats the issue with this kind of hose for brake ducts? Looks to be flexible enough?

 

It doesn't flow as well and it melts.

I didn't realize dust shields got hot? thats news to me.

I'm pretty sure there are motorsports pads that only START working at 500* and have usable heat ranges past 2000* so lots of fun stuff happens

 

id like to think I'm a decent driver. but I definitely have room to improve. I haven't been on track with the BBK yet so I'm most likely not going to take full advantage of the stopping power till I get the prop valve fully dialed in. I haven't been on track with aero either so the car is gonna be very different to what I'm used to, especially in braking zones.

I plan on going to 3" ducts so I don't really want to spend a whole lot on a replacement 2" hose. But I didn't realize that people melt plastic hose with the air being supplied to cool everything down.

pegasus auto has 3' of proper hose for $22. but then they screwed me with $25 for shipping. no.

would it cause uneven pad wear if I put a 3" hose on one side?

 

what about if I used a piece of the torn 2" duct that I currently have to put on the dust shield, then use a 2" to 2" pvc adapter to join the cheap hose up to? too janky?

 

Sure its janky. Might work though.

Corrugated hose also does not flow well.

hmmm. This stuff looks like it should take some heat? I mean, its metal.

 

Dryer hose may take the heat, but it's fragile. It dents and tears easily.

The silicone brake hose is expensive, but people use it because it's really the only tool for the job.

I would totally get some silicone hose but...I just won't be keeping the 2" ducts unless these is little/no improvement in upgrading to 3" ducts. So it would be like 60 bux for one hose that will be on the car for not a long time.

Well, you did it. so...I can do it too? maby? did you need wheel spacers?

 

You don't need special parts -- just expect to have to do significant surgery on the under tray and even then they'll get crushed and mangled by the wheels.
