I had that same problem with my singular ducts. I ended up very lightly clearancing the tie rod end with a grinder.

Mine where rested up against the rotor and pinned at the ball joint. I just cut an angle out of them. Everywhere is closed or won't put my car on a rack. Ended up at a Honda dealer with a 3 hour wait, but they had no qualms about a custom alignment and have a floor pit type aligning system.

turbofan 08-27-2016 12:59 PM

Right, mine were too, that's why I clearanced the tie rod mount. They hit the disc and they hit the arm. After clearancing the arm, they fit. Sure is close! Cutting them would work too, I just didn't want to mess up the powder coating.

psyber_0ptix 08-27-2016 01:02 PM

Oh wow, the dealer is doing a free state safety inspection and car wash.

psyber_0ptix 08-27-2016 03:28 PM

I messed up the powder coat, but I expect the dust to do the same. It's aluminum so I'm not too worried about rust.

Car is almost done! Just have to install the oil cooler somehow and fashion a under tray attachment point to the new subframe. I also doubt I'll have time to create ducting. I have zero space for the oil cooler, I'm a bit miffed.

Der_Idiot 08-27-2016 07:50 PM

I had that same issue, ended up massaging it with a body hammer until it cleared the rotor. Luckily it doesn't buzz or anything or I'd go insane :D

Now I need to figure out an undertray

OneTwo 08-28-2016 11:19 AM

Man, that looks awesome.

That tubular subframe sure looks like it makes things much easier to reach from a serviceability perspective too. Now I want one, haha!

18psi 08-28-2016 12:23 PM

looks really baller
you can still use oem tray, just zip tie the 2 rear mounting points instead of bolts.

The intercooler piping majorly interfered and I'm missing some mount studs. I've changed some of the routing so it may work better now, but I also don't have the front airdam part that would fit where the intercooler sits.

astral 08-30-2016 01:47 AM

Wow. That is pretty nuts man. Great work, take lots of pics, since almost no one will get to see that beautiful upskirt view!

So when I got a hanger welded on, they didn't lift the exhaust up high enough such that the bushing was pushing the clamp down onto the rear subframe. It rattled a lot, but only under decel.

Just shaved the corner a bit and it's nice and quiet. The small things in life.

Shibby 08-30-2016 10:40 AM

That's a big deal. Mine was undriveable above 75 or so with the exhaust rattling the entire car under decel.

That's a serious machine. I'm thrilled to have been able to work on it.

BTW, if there was ever a time for you to get out to Katie's Cars and Coffee, it's this Saturday. Holiday weekends bring out the best cars in the area. You should come out.

Yeah, like Saturday morning! I've never felt like my car was out of place at Katie's. There's love for everything there.

I went to a car's and coffee's at Katie's years ago, probably 6-8 years ago range.

I don't know about 8 years ago, but it's fairly unreal now. I'll get some pictures and post em wherever this forum supports that type of thread.

Downmented 08-30-2016 11:33 AM

Just like Hunt Valley HP Saturdays, some of the most ridiculous cars in the area out there. Got my best race in omw out there once lol. Took down a twin turbo c6 z06, he was extremely upset that he just saw the taillights of a 4door Mazda haha

psyber_0ptix 08-30-2016 12:01 PM

Oh please post that e30 backing up on to a Ferrari

psyber_0ptix 09-01-2016 12:36 PM

So I just found something out today that has left me miffed and livid.

I suspected that the rpm and gearing didn't feel as drastic as I was expecting switching from a 4.1 to a 3.636 rear end. I confirmed this by driving and holding at what the GPS said was 70mph, and the rpm should have been around 3000, but was just under 3500.

Turns out plugging it into the FM gearing calculator, I was sent the 3.9 gears. I didn't bother to check since, you know, brand new part from Mazda. MAZMART is where I ordered it from. Now it's a bit too late to do anything about it since it's already setup and installed but what a fucking let down.

I'll deal with it for now as I don't have the time, patience or funds to build a other diff unless someone wants to trade their OSGiken 3.63

aidandj 09-01-2016 12:39 PM

That's some bs. I would contact them and at least get money back. 3.63s are way more expensive than 3.9's

Downmented 09-01-2016 12:42 PM

^^^^ This %100!

shuiend 09-01-2016 12:47 PM

You sure they didn't come from Fab9?

psyber_0ptix 09-01-2016 12:52 PM

I'm so fucking pissed and tired of paying for something and getting the wrong parts. Sadly I ordered all that stuff last October and it wasn't until the install day at Downmenteds place that it went in. Not sure what I can get but I had a 3.9 ring and pinion on hand already. Would have saved more than half a grand.

psyber_0ptix 09-01-2016 12:54 PM

Originally Posted by shuiend (Post 1358041)

Funny you say this because it showed up in a nondescript box with no factory tags. It looked completely brand new, only the pinion was in am unmarked bag. But Mazmart said it came from Japan, and shipping was from Georgia. I didn't thing Fab9 sold ring and pinions.... Because I don't check that site anymore

turbofan 09-01-2016 01:29 PM

I believe 3.9's are not much cheaper than 3.6's if you're buying them new.

But that's some seriously, seriously shitty luck man.

psyber_0ptix 09-01-2016 07:37 PM

So in a fit of rage from the final drive fiasco (Do Not buy from MAZMART), I replaced my alternator.

Against conventional wisdom, I got a remanned unit locally for an rx7. Internally regulated, 100Amp.

Car quest 13460A
CARQUEST Alternator - Remanufactured - 100 Amps 13460A: Advance Auto Parts

turns out, it's a direct swap. The positive terminal and plug just sit on top of the alternator, but even the bottom alternator bolt is identical to stock. Everything mounts up, no issues, extras wiring, no drama. The pulleys where measured to be within 3 mm difference in diameter.

Yes, but you can find 3.9's used a lot more readily than 3.6's.

The valve cover is powder coated Jamaican Teal
Oil tube satin black
Actuator and coil bracket Illusion Purple.

aidandj 09-02-2016 01:32 PM

How did you powdercoat the actuator? Did you take it all apart?

Shibby 09-02-2016 02:36 PM

The powdercoater did mine as one piece. They don't spray the underside.. I'm guessing it's taped off.

aidandj 09-02-2016 02:43 PM

How did they powdercoat it with the plastic bit still on there. it doesnt melt in the oven?

psyber_0ptix 09-02-2016 05:26 PM

I disassembled it, removed the mini filter and had a dummy solenoid on hand to mask the area. It was cleaned and coated, individually by color. I just went over to priority for a new gasket and oring. I'll reuse my current solenoid when installed.

So excited to take Smurfette to the track this Friday!

But too bad the clutch has started slipping. I may have to defer my registration for next month, I don't want to be stranded 2.5 hours away. More things to fix -_-

AAA with the premium membership gives you 200 miles towing for free. It is well worth the early cost.

Hood vents letting water pool on top of the valve cover and make the plugs rustygross?

The hood vents sit forward of the valve cover, and the plug wires where doing a pretty decent job sealing from the top. The new SADFab wires, however don't fully nest into the hole, I wonder if that will exacerbate anything.

Does the cowl cover not send water to the cam cover from the windshield?

I'd expect the wiper cowl to slope water toward the hinges since it has that lip that sits above the cowl cover. I honestly never notice water pooling up back there unless I open a wet hood. Do you guys grease these holes up? or should I be looking at some other contingency? I replaced the sparkplugs, runs smoother now. It looks like the tips of the iridiums got a little melty.

Oh man.....so for shits and giggles I got a quote from Priority Mazda on doing a clutch job. Then I asked how much It'd cost for the oil pan to be resealed. Just labor, me providing parts. I just about pooped my pants. I knew I expected to be had, but not by this much
$950 for clutch
$824 for oil pan and re-alignment

I called a performance shop from my Subaru days and booked time to just do the clutch and related hydraulics for $450.

I'm afraid of the oil pan. I have all the parts, but really am so jaded with this kind of work.

Ryan_G 09-08-2016 04:30 PM

If you were closer to me I would say we should have a clutch and oil pan party since I have access to a hoist and air tools. It's going to be one shitty weekend once I commit to doing it.

aidandj 09-08-2016 04:31 PM

My oil pan has been leaking forever. You have a gravel driveway. Just ignore it and keep an eye in the level.
