A tl;dr from the report is: deaths from covid are rare, the vaccine works. Above I mentioned some alternate societal impacts besides death.

maybe, just maybe, people with the flu were diagnosed as having covid?
Or:
Influenza has a reproduction number of about 1.2-1.5 (i.e. on average every person that gets it infects between 1.2 and 1.5 others), and the covid delta strain is estimated between 5-9. Now, assume that the measures halved this number. Then influenza is <1, which means that it can't spread and covid is still >1. Then you get exactly the graph you shared...

Fully agreed. I'm not a fan of quarantines. The only reason I can personally think of for lock-downs are when the healthcare system starts to crumble, i.e. hospitals can't take any new patients. That's when covid does become more lethal.

I'm also not a fan of forced vaccinations. Every person should have full control over their body. That includes vaccines but also abortion. That being said, I do think you'd have to be a bit daft not to take the vaccine.

True, but only because of the other party, which is corrupt and evil. If everyone could take off their blinders and see how good and correct the party I support is, so many problems would just cease to exist.

Just to be clear on what you're saying here, you believe that the methods intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19, to include lockdowns, mask mandates and social distancing, completely stopped the transmission of all influenza, statistically speaking.

Transmission amongst humans in the western world, yes.

Does that mean that the flu is eradicated? Unfortunately, no. There are influenza reservoirs in animals too. Source: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2640312/.

The available data seem to support that conclusion.

There are some who dispute the validity of the data, such as by claiming that deaths due to flu have been mis-attributed as deaths due to Covid. Such claims require also believing that presently-understood information concerning differences in transmissibility and reproduction between the two viral families is incorrect, as Skamba noted earlier.

Obviously, those people for whom this has become a political-identity issue will disbelieve any data which either argues against the conclusion which they're already reached, or which comes from sources which they have been conditioned to distrust based on their perceived political allegiance of those sources.

My building just put up a sign today that says I'm required the wear a mask inside despite my vaccination status.

I'm very happy my building manager is looking out of other people's health by making me breath into a worthless petri dish!

we are in this together (even though no data suggests getting the vaccine reduces the risk for those who dont want it).

the delta variant didn't exist until were starting vaccinating [half of] everyone. we are in this together.

Ours did that last Friday. Sears & Hancock have done the same.

Quite annoying, as I am fully vaccinated.

Covid 19 as a whole didn't exist until after most of the planet had been vaccinated against Polio.

Are these two things related?

But why?!

We learned today that COVID spreads way too easily that hand sanitizer (that says won't kill coronavirus on the label), masks (that say won't stop coronavirus on the label), and social distancing (we are on day 365+ of 15 ) don't work.

So why are people without medical training, and/or no clear understanding of the virus dictating pointless practices to people who do not need them?

I think hospitals should stop diagnosing covid, then we will see a huge reduction in cases, just like we did on Jan 20.

Just get your shot and this will stop*!! Just get your booster and this will stop*!! Just get the next booster and this will stop*!! Just get the next booster and this will stop*!!

*And STILL have to stay masked and STILL have to lockdown**.

**because the vaccinated are forcing the virus to constantly evolve and we have to slow the spread.**

***except for dirty unvaccinated Africans who come across the mexican border by the thousands -- they vote democrat, so they are okay.

meanwhile:
https://nypost.com/2021/05/28/fauci-...k-of-pandemic/

Fauci once argued for risky viral experiments — even if they can lead to pandemic

Dr. Anthony Fauci once argued that conducting experiments on contagious viruses to increase their potency was worth the risk, even if the work could accidentally lead to a pandemic, it was revealed Friday.

The nation’s chief medical advisor wrote in the American Society for Microbiology in October 2012 of the public health benefit to gain-of-function viral experiments — which center on manipulating viruses and making them stronger — as long as there is significant oversight.

...

“In an unlikely but conceivable turn of events, what if that scientist becomes infected with the virus, which leads to an outbreak and ultimately triggers a pandemic?” he wrote at the time.

“Many ask reasonable questions: given the possibility of such a scenario – however remote – should the initial experiments have been performed and/or published in the first place, and what were the processes involved in this decision? Scientists working in this field might say – as indeed I have said – that the benefits of such experiments and the resulting knowledge outweigh the risks.”

He wrote that it was “more likely” that a pandemic would occur naturally and “the need to stay ahead of such a threat is a primary reason for performing an experiment that might appear to be risky.”

...

“We cannot expect those who have these concerns to simply take us, the scientific community, at our word that the benefits of this work outweigh the risks, nor can we ignore their calls for greater transparency, their concerns about conflicts of interest, and their efforts to engage in a dialog about whether these experiments should have been performed in the first place,” Fauci wrote.

“Those of us in the scientific community who believe in the merits of this work have the responsibility to address these concerns thoughtfully and respectfully.”
the guy in charge, who lies ton Congress and tells us conflicting information every day, thinks this was all worth it though.

I'm also required to tell my employer my vax status by Aug 12. I guess they wanna know who the super-spreader are (the vaccinated).

If only journalists were reporting basic things like "wow, the CDC is changing data practices, data collection practices, naming conventions, and they even change their historic Web pages so they align with the information today - even though the Waybackmachine.com shows the real story".

Not to mention CDC and MSM have switched to reporting "daily cases" and deaths but you have to dig and dig to find total cases. Oh, what's the problem with that method?

Here's a fun math game and formula you can play at home with the numbers form your state to find out how dangerous your state is
1 death / 1 case = 100% death rate, 0% survival rate
1 death / 10 cases = 10% death rate, 90% survival rate
2,872 deaths / 223,364 cases = 0.012% death rate, 99.9871% survival rate

Also, no one seems to want to admit that A) people already dying of some significant disease are tested OR PRESUMED to have Covid-19 B) the majority of people dying of Covid are near end of life and are more likely dying of old age.Aug3 MSN - Oregon Covid update

As of Tuesday, 2.32 million people in Oregon had completed a vaccine series, and 181,304 had received at least one dose.

  • A 43-year-old man from Jackson County who tested positive on July 18 and died on July 30 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center. He had underlying conditions.

  • A 69-year-old woman from Yamhill County who tested positive on July 25 and died on July 28 at Providence Portland Medical Center. She had underlying conditions.
  • COVID-19 by the numbers

Here's the most recent data from the Oregon Health Authority, as of Tuesday, August 3.
  • 2,872: People who have died from COVID-19.
  • 223,364: Total cases of COVID-19.
  • 379: COVID-19 patients in hospitals.

But, in all seriousness, the story I posted, which was from a mainstream media outlet, said literally that exact thing. About the rioters breaking down the gate to their property, that is. They just buried it down in the text of the article, rather than leading with it. I even quoted the sentence in my post.

This is making a nation-wide assumption. During the "pandemic", our entire business park worked without masks, save my neighbor's shop, as he was going through chemo. Then we need to factor in the non-efficacy of t-shirt masks, which is nothing short of comedy "masq"uerading as science. Even the CDC said so (again) this past weekend.

Assigning these numbers to this clown show is what the media has been doing, breathlessly for a year and a half.

no what they did was shift the blame to transmittable areas, but if you look at their us chart the entire country is moderate to severe, therefore they're guidance suggest everyone should wear a useless mask again ...

Also I went into work every single day even though 97% of my building is still working from home since the last April.
