It was purposefully simplistic example. But I disagree the President is as important as Congress or even the Supreme Court.

You could probably make a case that the Supreme Court is even more important since they can take exisiting laws and overturn them, change interpretation, etc.

With regard to domestic policy, yes, the President is not a key player. Which is why questions about how a certain candidate feels about abortion or guns or religion make me a sad panda.

But foreign policy, both military and diplomatic, is vested heavily within the executive, and that's been kind of a hot topic for the US over the past decade and a half. Neither Congrefs nor The Supremes have a great deal of practical influence on who America's next enemy will be. Not to mention that it's the President, not the Speaker or the Chief Justice, who is held up as a de-facto mascot for the nation.

The power of the veto makes him/her as important. Case in point, Obama used the veto 12 times vs 1 override. Depending on your view or the legislation pro/con either way the outcome was important. History shows the same thing.

Yes, they can take existing laws and overturn them in which case Congress is free to change the legislation to fit, or not, and the President is then free to veto, or not...

The dangers come when the country is at it's extremes (polarizing views) and one party comes to control the multiple branches and then appoint those future SC justices who may/may not view things the same.

As is evident with our current president, he/she can influence an entire race. Choose a few high profile incidents, pick a side before the facts come out and start racial conflict. Get the media to help spread your propaganda and watch cities burn while you play golf.

Can you even imagine the corruption that will come with a Hillary administration? Pro tip....when choosing your advisors/staff....your chief of staff should be an attorney and on retainer when mishandling classified information. That way you can enact attorney/client privilege and be protected.

Not to get too far off topic... Are you saying our current President is the cause of our racial conflict in America?

Pro tip > 5th amendment.

Whoa, I stated "influence." He made statements and chose sides with Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown BEFORE the facts came out.

So I guess, by influence, you mean something along the lines of Senate Minority Leader (at the time) Mitch McConnell stating his parties (by inference) goal was to make "Obama a one term president" might be seen as a racist comment by a black person?

Nevermind...

Not defending McConnell but isnt it in the party's (not race) best interest to want to have their own party elected and their opposition out of office?

When was the last time Obama sent the DOJ to investigate the killing of a white civilian? After all, LEOs killed more whites in 2015 than blacks.

Why is it when a white person disagrees with Obama he/she is racist? When a black person disagrees, he/she is an Uncle Tom? Why can't I not care for him because of his disregard for our Constitution and his policies that put Americans in danger.

You can not care for him for whatever reason you like. Cause 'merica...

Doesn't mean people need to agree with you.

Abortion = hareng rouge

LEOs killed more whites in 2015 than blacks? So you think sharing logic with people who abhor it will make some sort of difference? Logic was extricated from school curriculum over the last 25 years by people who wanted gray areas and wished for the truth to be whatever they told you it was. Truth, in the absolute sense, matters not. "Feelz is realz" rules our world now. Prove it? Ok. Should you use the men's restroom or women's? What do you feel like you are today? Eastasia has always been at war with Eurasia and hatespeak is violence and thoughtcrime is realcrime and the government is here to protect you from yourself, your foolish, incompetent self.

I sure am glad there is peace in both those places now.

The Easter Bunny got a Nobel Peace prize, too.
Oh, wait. That was Jimmy Carter. I always get them confused.
