Lynd explained the cards weren't showing limits and they called corporate Walmart, whose spokesman said to let the people use the cards anyway. From 7 to 9 p.m., people were loading up their carts, but when the cards began showing limits again around 9, one woman was detained because she rang up a bill of $700.00 and only had .49 on her card. She was held by police until corporate Walmart said they wouldn't press charges if she left the food.
Lynd says at 9 p.m., when the cards came back online and it was announced over the loud speaker, people just left their carts full of food in the aisles and left.
"Just about everything is gone, I've never seen it in that condition," said Mansfield Walmart customer Anthony Fuller.

I really hope that the govt goes back through all the EBT transactions and deducts the excess amounts from their future benefits. I know this will not actually happen.

The chain has no regrets even though Louisiana's Department of Children and Family Services said food stamp recipients should have been limited to $50 each during the emergency and that Walmart will have to pay the difference.
Lundberg declined to comment about how much the company may have lost or why it did not follow the emergency $50 limit.

I'm okay with Walmart paying. Their manager in corporate is the jackass that said to run the cards with no limit. I am just glad that the tax payers are not stuck with the bill.

-- "Rents" an apartment to the developer Palladino who knocked over Serpico's trees who then did not get cited by the zoning guy Ennis... and Palladino in no way needs that apartment.
-- The town attorney bills 26 hours a day
-- The town accountant lost $250,000 in another town but the town refuses to get an audit
-- The town spent $250,000 to lose in court against your humble blogger, me, apparently because no one complained about dog barking
-- The town passed a law to put people in jail for their chickens tresspassing
-- The town called a private resort a state park so it wouldn't have to pay taxes
-- Bribes and kickbacks
-- Embezzlement
-- No show jobs
-- Fraudulent airport expansion

Excellent example of an ignorant Congressperson spouting off without understanding the operational realities. I almost wish Obama would just come out and say, "Hey guys - remember that speech I gave in 2006 about the debt ceiling? It turns out I had no idea what I was talking about and, like a lot of Americans (including those in Congress), I totally misunderstood how this whole thing works."

EDIT: "I think that it's important to understand the vantage point of a senator versus the vantage point of a president," Obama replied. "When you're a senator, traditionally what's happened is, this is always a lousy vote. Nobody likes to be tagged as having increased the debt limit for the United States by a trillion dollars. As president, you start realizing, you know what, we can't play around with this stuff. This is the full faith and credit of the United States. And so that was just an example of a new senator making what is a political vote as opposed to doing what was important for the country. And I'm the first one to acknowledge it."
