@Joe Perez the FISA court has ordered the government to explain to the court by early next year what steps it was taking to prevent witch hunts in the future and called the behavior of the FBI as “antithetical to the heightened duty of candor” owed to the court.

But you probably still think Comey is a cool dude.

Is it actually possible for government intervention to improve upon free market exchanges of non-public goods and services?

The fact that they made a(nother) law which prevents mutual agreements between private parties presupposes that prohibition of such agreements, and therefore the de facto enactment of more price controls, is in the best interests of the community as a whole. I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that hundreds of Vox workers would disagree with the argument that this legislation is in their best interests.

Does it lead to higher total wages? Perhaps, for the tens of Vox workers that probably were, by mutual agreement, able to become minimum wage employees.

So in just this company; hundreds of workers against, tens of workers for, and some unknown number of people who were already employees of the company before the legislation probably didn't stand to gain or lose anything - and thus are indifferent. I guess I'm glad we could make 20 people marginally better off at the cost of making 200 people far worse off.

Do I get a vote too? While I'm against the law, I guess I'm in favor of so many Vox writers no longer having jobs - that means less **** content to sift through on the internet - at least for a little while. There is not nearly enough "newsworthy" events in the world that we need hundreds of writers - who get paid by the click - to cover it all; Case in point -> I must have seen 2 dozen news stories come up in my google feed over the last two weeks about how "Chipotle has nurses to call and see if you're really sick or just hungover" - they're still posting as new - and don't get me started on how incredibly misleading that headline is. Not newsworthy; especially not repost worthy.

Yes.

By using police and the military to prevent criminal activity from interfering with the free market. (Eg: by protecting those involved in the market from burglars, arsonists, Antifa, pirates, etc.)

First off, I want to say that yes, I fact-checked what I am about to post below. I am not just re-posting a doctored screenshot. I took this screenshot myself, and added emphasis where appropriate.

Here is the original article, straight from the source: https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/a...hours-men.html

Here's what you'll find at that link:

So, interesting. The headline is not technically false, but looking at the absolute numbers maybe kind of suggests why men tend to earn more, on average, than women?

The field of work is questionable though.

True, but I'd still work her field.

Just being totally utilitarian here. She's published, which means something in my line of business.

EDIT: No, I got my authors mixed up. Matthew Hickley is not whose field I wish to plow.

The headline is technically accurate.

Here's another funny one:

https://www.wired.com/story/ig-repor...mp-deep-state/

So Much for the Deep State Plot Against Donald Trump

Inspector general Michael Horowitz's report shows that the FBI's investigation of ties between Russia and the Trump campaign was both justified and without political bias.

meanwhile:

https://www.thedailybeast.com/doj-in...dicate-anybody

DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz: My Report Doesn’t ‘Vindicate Anybody’

“Certainly our findings were that there were significant problems,” Horowitz added when asked if Comey was right that there were no FISA abuses.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/jus...takes-n1103451

Secret FISA court issues highly unusual public rebuke of FBI for mistakes

The criticism comes after a report by the DOJ inspector general that found "so many basic and fundamental errors."

...

Rosemary Collyer, presiding judge on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court, said in the unusual public order that the report "The frequency with which representations made by FBI personnel turned out to be unsupported or contradicted by information in their possession, and with which they withheld information detrimental to their case, calls into question whether information contained in other FBI applications is reliable."

...

100% serious. If the size of it is what I estimate based on the background (guessing about 3-4 feet wide), I have a very real need for it in a new set that we're designing right now.

If I'm totally off-base, and it's just a weird potatophone closeup of one of those new bent monitors on someone's desk, then I blame Trump.

EDIT: it's too damn early for me to be making aesthetic judgements about set design. Looks like just a potatophone shot of the upper half of a normal TV.

I blame Trump.

Also, ****, now I have to call the south-Korean dude who barely speaks Spanish (and not English at all), and get back to trying to describe what I need their company to make for us.

This is all Greta's fault. Were it not for her ungodly ways, master Robin would have never left home.

they do make wide-*** monitors, but IIRC anything bigger than 34" is going to be curved.

Yeah, it took me a few minutes to grasp the scale. Way too small for what I need.

As much as I bemoan the departure from 16:10 for desktop applications, it turns out to he surprisingly hard to find displays of useful size (for on-camera purposes) in ultra-wide format.

CNN forgot about the TRUMP TRAIN

https://www.cnn.com/2019/12/18/polit...To99-7bqFrQ7L8

Warning lights are flashing for Democrats as they prepare to impeach Trump

...Even as the House prepares for the historic vote, however, there's growing evidence that the public impeachment proceedings in the House against Trump may actually be helping him politically...

remember that time CNN went out of their way to find and threaten a kid over this meme?
