That made me kind of queasy. I don't have the stomach to slice someone with a sword so I'll just stick to shooting them if the need arises.

I'm honestly surprised that the cops didn't just shoot this retard on general principle:

I saw that video yesterday. That guy is a ******* idiot and made terrible decisions which only escalated the event. If he really didn't want to start **** he never would have gotten that close to them while filming making his presence obvious. He's a crazy anti-govt. activist who has condoned violence against police in the past. **** him.

The other drunk people were also intoxicated and also made terrible choices. The only people in that video that handled it the way they should have was the cops.

He approached a possible domestic violence situation with 4 participants who were clearly intoxicated and stood close enough with a camera that his presence was absolutely sure to be recognized. He made no attempt to stay out of sight and just record in case things escalated.

Whether its legal or not people often get irritated when you film them without their permission in public. Add in an already heightened emotional state and intoxicants and anyone with half a brain knows that situation is likely to escalate out of control. Domestic disputes are among the most dangerous calls for police to respond to for this very reason. He may have done everything legally and by the book but that doesn't mean he isn't a jackass who used poor judgement.

What would I have done in the same situation? Called the cops and then stood with my camera far enough away in a semi concealed position so it wasn't absolutely clear I was there. I can monitor for escalation from a far and provide my account to the officers when they arrive. Instead, he almost turned a drunken argument on the street into a homicide.

^ This.

I can't even begin to express how annoyed I am when people attempt to white-knight themselves by interjecting into, and subsequently escalating, volatile situations for the sheer purpose of self-aggrandizement while hiding behind the cloak of civil liberty.

If you want to **** people off and make a fool of yourself, just go stomp on a flag like Eric Sheppard. No need to harm others in the process.

Sometimes, such as when they're conducting speed-traps in areas in which the posted speed limit is either less than the typical speed of traffic or in areas with extremely light traffic where the limit is far lower than would be safe for conditions. Those are really the only situations in which I've ever felt that the police were acting towards me in a manner which was not directly consistent with preserving my liberty.

But the above comment was more aimed at the small minority of civilians who habitually interject themselves into situations in which they have no business being, and harassing both the law enforcement officers and the criminals whom they are managing, typically for the sole purpose of obtaining photos and videos which they can then re-post on forums and social media sites to reinforce their self-anointed title of Social Justice Warrior.

In earlier times, society would simply be liberated of the burden of such individuals.

Do you have any additional context on this video? Did he kill the first guy? I am surprised he was able to run away from that, even with adrenaline, it looks like he got hit in the chest 3 or 4 times from a super close range. Also, did he kill one of his neighbors when he continued to fire the gun in a semi circle toward the street as he attempted to aim for the second assailant?

Looks like he did get hit a couple times. As an aside, we're conditioned by television and movies to believe that when a person gets shot, they either #1:are flung backwards in the air 25feet, or #2:instantly clutch their belly and double-over forward moaning. The reality for a human is that unless you are hit directly in the heart or brain/spine, you're going to have a certain amount of time to be in the fight until the pain hits you. What you are able to do with that time and you fight through the pain is different for everybody.

As another aside, I've shot deer at close range with larger magnum centerfire rifles, where the bullet liquefied the heart, lungs, and a few other organs... and the deer ran for a hundred yards before falling. I've also shot deer with much smaller guns where I did little actual physical damage and they dropped on the spot. Animals tolerate pain differently than we do, but it illustrates the point. Humans almost always succumb to pain before legitimate physical incapacitation due to blood loss.

This is why you use hollowpoints for self-defense, and why you aim for center-mass. The idea is that all the energy from the expanding bullet is released inside the body where it can do the most damage. You want to simultaneously cause immense pain and organ damage, plus the energy released inside a chest cavity will usually have a certain "shock" effect to the CNS as that energy is transmitted to the spinal column. Most people misunderstand self-defense shooting and the purpose for hollowpoints. The idea is never to kill a person (that's called murder), but to stop as quickly as possible from doing whatever it is they're doing that caused you to shoot them.
