Acid attacks in Britain's capital are soaring to new heights, new data reveals.
A Freedom of Information request submitted by the Mirror shows that between 2011 and 2016, London had nearly 1,500 cases of the devastating crime, which burns the skin and leaves victims cowering from their injuries.
In the long term, the scale of the injuries are so scarring that victims can often suffer serious psychological damage as a result of the attacks.
Last year alone, there were 431 such acid attacks – a rise of 170 cases from the year prior.
The figures match a general UK trend, in which the crime rate for such attacks has risen by 50% since 2005.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez showing more of her true colors:
Background: employees of Wayfair scheduled a walkout, to protest the fact that Wayfair is selling beds to BCFS, a non-profit group which is operating several of the shelters in which illegal immigrant children are housed while awaiting processing. (They also provide support to foster and adoption agencies, emergency / disaster relief programs, domestic violence shelters, etc.)
And AOC fully supports their opposition to giving children beds to sleep on.
This makes a lot of sense, on multiple levels.
The most obvious is that in order to advance the "Orange man bad" narrative, it's optimal to increase the visible suffering of these children. Forcing them to sleep on the floor is a step in the right direction. If they were to have beds to sleep in, that'd be one less thing to use in painting the President as "literally Hitler."
The other is more subtle, and it hinges on the fact that Wayfair, of course, is a corporation. If Wayfair caves to the pressure and refuses to supply beds to children as many of their employees want, then that's proof that capitalism is evil and has failed to act compassionately. If your aim is to promote socialism, you can't have corporations acting humanely, can you? That would argue against the need for government to control not merely commerce, but also the means of production. Because government, obviously, is benevolent and kind.
I gotta admit, I respect this lady. She ain't dumb.

^ Further evidence of the failure of capitalism.
(Ignore the fact that it's still nearly double its value 6 months ago. Perspective is a tool of the patriarchal oppressors. #ResistReality.)

I wish Democrats cared about American children as much as they did Mexican ones...

White House threatens to veto aid bill for migrant families - Story | KTTV
WASHINGTON (AP) - It took last-minute changes and a full-court press by top Democratic leaders, but the House passed with relative ease Tuesday a $4.5 billion emergency border aid package to care for thousands of migrant families and unaccompanied children detained after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.

In unrelated news:
Today, I saw an ad on FB for a cell-service provider, the key selling point of which was that they are "the only mobile carrier fighting Trump's hate"
Totally serious. Nothing about the pricing, or the quality of the service, or anything relevant at all. Just that if you subscribe to their service, you can feel good about opposing the President.
Reality is getting weird.

Democrats Unanimous As House Passes Bill Forcing Schools To Let Male Athletes Compete In Girls’ Sports
The Democratically controlled House of Representatives voted Friday 236-173 in favor of the Equality Act, which would require schools to include male athletes who identify as transgender girls on female sports teams.
Eight Republicans crossed party lines to vote for the bill, which had unanimous Democratic support.
The bill amends the Civil Rights Act of 1964 to make “sexual orientation and gender identity” protected characteristics under federal anti-discrimination law.
Among other things, that would force public schools to expand female athletic teams to include biological males who identify as transgender girls.
Republican Florida Rep. Greg Steube introduced a last-minute amendment to the bill that would have preserved Title IX’s protections of female athletic teams, but Democrats rejected it.
