Because throwing in forged slugs without making sure the cylinders are flawlessly round and true/to spec is a very risky Gamble that no one wants to take when spending that kind of money

You should be able to get forged pistons in stock size. You just might have to go straight to Supertech or call one of the vendors to order them. Generally when people start building a motor the little bit of extra cost for the boring verse honing is marginal.

minimum cost for your average motor build: 2,000
average cost for boring/honing: 200

Whenever you have an "original idea", just remember:

Well..guess ill stick with rods only. Stock pistons will be fine with e85 and a .86 housing on a gt28. Should get me to a little over 300whp

This

In my case I had terrible wear on my oem rings and caused me to leak and lose oil daily (which also caused my motor's demise). Went with factory MSM CR 9.5:1, supertech 83.5 and wisecoxx rings. Motor runs fine on stock ecu aidsflashxede like nothing happened. Plus I have the benefit of forged slugs and higher quality rings. Zero oil loss now.
