I emailed Thermwell products about the foam shit you guys use. product number fv516 has a temperature rating of 190 degrees but the fiberglass is fire retardant.

So it will fall off but it wont burn. Probably OK to use if it will stick. (similar to what Hyde said)

Oh, BTW do not use this stuff directly on the heat shield.

Mine has not burst into flames yet but it got hard and somewhat brittle. The foil seems to be ok. :2cents:

Update. Put a fair amount of miles on my heat shielding on the transmission tunnel/firewall.

It's quite helpful and lasting well. Still recommend ceramic coating everything though.

The DEI Floor & Tunnel Shield II? I'm guessing you did the 3.5 sq. ft. chunk as in the video?

Put a chunk over the tunnel just like the video I showed before, then another square by the ebrake, and more by the headers.

Awesome. Does it mold well at all to the compound curves and such?

It actually did surprisingly well. The only place where there's a gap in adhesion was on the ebrake, where it needs to go up and over two different levels. I could have cut it and put on both, but it's working fine with that gap even. Very nicely sticky.

The only prep I did was soap and water.

I'd put some on the ebrake area too. A surprising amount of heat comes in through there.

Yea, got some over the brake howsing; No shower LOL long story but in short i have a shop floor drain (shower drain from Lowes)

I have dynamat installed in the bay and in the interior. Helped out a lot.

Man finding rattles with the shiny stuff will be a pain in the ass, glue that shit on there good.

It wouldn't be the worst idea to pop a few holes at the corners and secure with some rivets and fender washers.

Killer, thanks for the reply. Ordered 14sq/ft this afternoon, along with some other stuff. I'm looking to get similar coverage and didn't want to short myself. It will sit for a while until the engine/trans comes out again, but that shouldn't be an issue.

I noticed that DEI has part numbers for both "Floor and Tunnel Shield" and "Floor and Tunnel Shield II" floating around out there. Both sets of part numbers are searchable and orderable on Amazon. I'm wondering why they revised the product? I bought the II FWIW

Also ordered DEI Cool Tape for the seams, because anything worth doing is worth overdoing :burncash:

I did this and used this in the car on drivers side and over transmission tunnel made a huge difference.

Is that Suppressor Acoustical & Heat Control Mat or Super Sonic Acoustical Mat ?

I'm pulling the dash this weekend and the plan is to run DEI - Under Carpet Lite over the tunnel and as far up the firewall as I can get it, and then follow it up with the before mentioned Floor and Tunnel Shield II on the outside next time the engine is out.

I have a roll of RattleTrap XXX in the garage I bought for my 70's F250 that I could press into service, but that shit's heavy. I used some on the rear deck and vertical section behind the seats in the Miata and it helped a lot, but I'm not sure I want to use all 30lbs of the stuff.
