Welcome to MT.net:

where the members cry in their pillows at night because they can't take a joke and take props way too seriously.

 :dealwithit:

Oh trust me, I know the props mean nothing. I just think its fun to perpetuate the myth.

I should alos give poobs -1 for wrapping the header instead of insulating the things he wants to protect from heat.

Well, my brake fluid reservoir started to look like a Dali painting so I wrapped it in the said Mylar stuff and then a blue fabric piece that conveniently had Velcro on the edges. It may have been a knee running support.

Drove the Miata to a job interview today. It was HOT !!!
I tried to attach some pics of where my insulation ends under the carpet which about 3 inches from the shelf but the upload failed :vash:.
While I was down there I added some more insulation just to see (feel) what it does.
I also added some foam packing stuff to the underside of the dash by the driver’s side directly under the steering column.

Turbo heat shield is next.
:vash2:

What am I doing to the heat shield ?

I'm either extending the back of it or making another one that will attach to the firewall.

Go home Poobs, u drunk.

EO2K 08-28-2013 08:15 PM

Heat shield maybe?

poobs 08-28-2013 08:35 PM

I just pulled the turbo heat shield ... It is going to be a bear to put a barrier between the DP and the stuff on the firewall.

I can see why the Flying Miata heat shield doesn't fit well with my DP :bang:

Put a heat sink on a turbo to keep the interior cool? Sounds like something hyper would propose

Nah he would put the ecu in a water cooled container cooled by the holy grail reroute on top of the manifold.

why dont you unlock the ignition timing and use the timing table...not only will your car run significantly better, increase mpgs, make more power, but it will also cut down the EGTs and stop melting your face.

ask redturbomiata about this.

Yes I failed and didn't set it back to the timing table, as a direct result we have this. Its the little things that come back and bite you in the ass later. Oddly enough it was not that hot inside the cabin.

no bro, you should keep your timing locked and just run a heat shield.

Yikes !!!!

Based on the above I think this information is appropriate

Took the turbo heat sink out yesterday and drove my son to school this morning about 1.5 miles away – a 10 minute ride
A few minutes after I parked the car in the garage back home I took temperature readings with the infra red thermometer aka laser pointer cat toy.
The turbo hot side was in the 500 plus range. The down pipe was nearly 400 degrees. The firewall shy of 200. The metal thing by the master cylinder 200 and on the surface of the 2nd top most layer of insulation under the dash it was 91 degrees. Gotta make a better heat shield.
Your mileage may vary
Note that I had to open the hood to take these readings. I expect the temperature to have dropped a lot soon as I open the hood. :hsugh:

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, WHAT IS THIS!!!!

I can't keep reading this thread if i don't know what a turbo heat sink is...

Is it like a big hunk of aluminum with cooling fins and maybe an electric fan moulded to the turbo?

Pictures!

no seriously... and please read post 51 and 52.

poobs 08-29-2013 01:45 PM

R U guys making fun of my accent ??! :crx:

There is no turbo heat sink (that I know of) it was a typo on my part. My feeble knowledge of electronics getting in the way.

Braineack 08-29-2013 02:21 PM

omg, please articulate you've read post #51 and taken the necessary steps to confirm this is not your issue.

Emphasis added for emphasis. If it works for 25hr enduro races, it will work in our peasant mobiles.

More infos here: https://www.miataturbo.net/race-prep-75/crusher-61450/

I did this (except I did the entire tunnel and added a second layer in the area closest to the down pipe).

I also did this:

Attachment 239546

Ceramic coating + heatwrap + cooltec clamp on heat shield

As one can tell, I was really sick of burning my leg on the sheet metal (no carpet/insulation in my interior). I'll post the results/effectiveness once the car is running.
