I just laid some of this on the drivers side in the car. First time on track, started to melt the tar-like adhesive on the back and broke through the top layer. Made a mess. Had to tape it over with some aluminum tape I have to stop it from getting anywhere. Still got really hot. Need more work on the heat stopping side...

Well shit, that answers my question  I don't need a bunch of melted shit in my cabin. If the ThermoTec product went squishy, I don't even want to think about what the cheapass FatMat is going to do. I'll just save it for the truck, its already a fatty.

Putting a ton of thermal barriers on the cockpit side of the tunnel is a waste of time. Exhaust will heat all the sheet metal from the firewall to the rear bulkhead to 180° and radiate buckets of heat even if the little heel protector mat is saving your right foot. Keep the tub from getting hot in the first place and you don't need to go crazy in the interior.

My goal with the interior is controlling noise, not necessarily heat. I'm sure there will be some thermal benefit to interior products, but I'm counting on the floor and tunnel shield to do that job.

Is that Suppressor Acoustical & Heat Control Mat or Super Sonic Acoustical Mat ?

I'm pulling the dash this weekend and the plan is to run DEI - Under Carpet Lite over the tunnel and as far up the firewall as I can get it, and then follow it up with the before mentioned Floor and Tunnel Shield II on the outside next time the engine is out.

I have a roll of RattleTrap XXX in the garage I bought for my 70's F250 that I could press into service, but that shit's heavy. I used some on the rear deck and vertical section behind the seats in the Miata and it helped a lot, but I'm not sure I want to use all 30lbs of the stuff.

this stuff
i used 2 sheets.

I thought that may happen around the heal area but i have not pulled the carpet back to take a look yet. If it does i will just put a piece of sheet aluminum on the high wear area.
