I have :D
I'm still awaiting my roll-bar mount but I doubt I'll receive it before the event.
So, I'm just going to mount it to the top of the windshield. I'm going to try to take datalogs too.

Maybe I should tune rich for flames?

Best time: 32.257
No grip = very fun but slow times

Turbo Miata Autox w/ FAST @ SPC:

Leafy 04-13-2014 10:11 PM

How many runs did you get, if normal auto-x is just jerking off, that was kind of like staring intensely at the bulge in your pants with your hands at your sides. Lol.

Efini~FC3S 04-13-2014 10:36 PM

If normal auto-x is jerking off, does that make wheel-2-wheel racing like having sex?

With a woman?

Everyone got 5 runs. Yeah really short courses. I suppose the next best thing would of been going to Sebring. Or drift the shit out of it at Desoto.

BrilloHeadBen 04-14-2014 11:20 AM

Yeah, that site is small, but sites in this area of Florida are hard to come by so we take what we can get. The site we hold most events at is a dead runway at Hernando County Airport. Usually a slalom fest, but much longer runs and way more grip to be had.

It's still loads of fun and being on a set of $250 DD tires I didn't expect much for time.
Yeah I have yet to run at the Brooksville events, but from what I hear of the other guys getting into 3rd gear sounds like it may be more suited for me. I had to stay in 3rd the whole time at that last event to get a decent time. Power range of the MSM turbo, as most know, is just.. dafuq?
How they managed to make such a slow spooling small turbo I dunno.. and inefficient as well.. must be holes in the blades... or housing.

Fireindc 04-14-2014 03:38 PM

Sweet videos, car looks pretty quick. Love the build :makeout:

Sounds kind of like my old greddy turbo.

BrilloHeadBen 04-14-2014 05:06 PM

SPC is always a 2nd gear course for me (6speed, but still n/a). At Brooksville I always use 3rd, downshift for the turnaround and then back into 3rd on the way back down the runway. Loren bounced my car off the rev-limiter in 3rd at a PCA event at Brooksville a few months back :eek3:. Tampa Bay Downs occasonally requires 3rd, depends on course design.

What rear end do you have?
Haha, yeah Loren tends to be able to push a car to its brink.
Never went to a Tampa Bay Downs event, FAST host those?

Well, I went to the Monday Miata Surf Shack meet and I though I'm pretty close to this "Patterson Rd" that I've heard so much about.
So, I decided since I was in that area tonight that I'd go check it out after I left the Miata meet
Wasn't disappoint.

My brakes were so faded at the end.
Sorry, cellphone video.

Update:
Still waiting on 3" pipe for exhaust.

I want to hit up "Tail of the Gecko" That's east of the Tampa area.
I'll bring my GoPro then though. Still waiting on my rollbar mount too :/

Side note,
With all the 2jz Miatas popping up. I'm question what I'm doing with my life.

Impuls 04-16-2014 07:12 PM

Another side note:
GoPro rollbar mount just came in.

furrycurry33 04-16-2014 07:16 PM

Did you already order your exhaust pipe? I need to get on that.. going with a magnaflow?

Yeah. I guess they don't make 3" mandrel bends as often as I thought.

Eventually I'll get the magnaflow muffler. But for now it'll be open downpipe.

Only a matter of time now.
Bends are in.
I finally got paid for the hit and run by the "persons" insurance company.

Yet I've been thinking of selling the car. Or engine.

So started taking things apart. Very impressed, the little MSM turbo is a trooper. +18psi and lots of spark cuts and yet no oil in my charge piping. I figured it was on its way out. Anyways, did some test fits of the new setup and looks like the EWG well have to be moved a bit and angled too work/not hit things. Nothing big but it should be glorious, things are coming together, everything seems pretty simple and there's plenty of room for activities.

I'm wondering if the A/C compressor will comprise my oil drain at all. I don't think they'll be close enough to block each other

CoP setup, $300 instantly taken out, BACK ON MAY 8TH, I've talked to them 5 FUCKING TIMES now, I've been polite every single time, giving them bug information about their mobile site not showing certain things(stock, contact info, ect..), being promised "Oh, it'll ship next week, if not let me know I'll expedite it", 3 broken promises later, I get shipping confirmation, check of delivery info after no show, GOT DELIVERED TO FUCKING Pennsylvania, Call and forward the email of shippment info, he admits there was a mistake, says he will ship another out to me to my correct address this time, I ask "well, let's talk shipping my car is soon to be done and I kinda need this, you need to help me out." promised 2 day shipping on JUNE 16th, still waiting.

This is bullshit Fab9.

I'm about to request my money back in full and may never recommend their business.

VHT. So many coats, used the whole can. Oven cured it.
I think what's flaking is the engine enamel but I don't think I put that on there. I dunno. I gotta check again to see if it's pure metal under it.

What do y'all suggest then? I've never seen expensive coatings besides going to a powder coater.

swaintech coating. look it up. it is pricey though.

and  @ dumping a can on VHT onto a turbine housing. are you literally trying to go full retard? I feel like you're actually trying to be the typical florida resident at this point

Leafy 06-24-2014 09:09 AM

Swain isnt even that expensive. My complicated ass tubular manifold, the EFR housing, and my downpipe was only like $280 including shipping that big box both ways.

18psi 06-24-2014 09:20 AM

it is compared to his $10 can of VHT and his $120 manifold and $250 turbo lol

Leafy 06-24-2014 09:25 AM

But now that he's failed, its going to cost him an extra $10 to have a coated manifold than it needed to if he just did it right the first time.

I've never seen any of the home coating kits work worth a fuck. There's no way around it, you're farming the job out if you want it done right.

I didn't do Swain, but my shit is rated to 2500F, and i made it very clear to the shop that if this shit flaked off, they were in for a world of hurt, since it's coated inside and out, and i don't want that shit going through my turbo.

They pretty much said "Do whatever the fuck you want, you aren't damaging that shit."

$205 for the pieces you see there, including prep/blasting.

https://www.miataturbo.net/attachmen...ine=1403617760

Leafy 06-24-2014 09:53 AM

$10 says the coating flakes of the inside of the manifold within 2 months.

18psi 06-24-2014 09:54 AM

and what happens when some of it flakes off somewhere on the inside where you can't really see that it broke off? you cry about it, threaten "world of hurt" and they just laugh and tell you to pound sand.

I see no point in coating the inside of hotparts.

that said, its still 2 billion times better than what OP did

Maybe so. But, it's guaranteed, and i've been working with this shop for years. We'll see what happens.

Please note: I specifically voiced my concerns about coating the insides when i dropped off the parts, since i felt the same way, and was assured that it would not be a problem.

They guaranteed the coating for life of the motor, with the idea that if i exceed the temp rating, my motor is fucked anyways.

This isn't exactly a small time shop with no experience. They handle the coatings for most of the motors and stuff coming out of Gasoline Alley.

If you could actually get the coating to stick to the inside of the manifold it would prevent it from rusting on the inside and it would reduce the amount of heat transferred immensely. But its not possible to make a coating stick all that well to the inside, so when it flakes off it fucks up the turbine wheel.

Ryan_G 06-24-2014 10:17 AM

Name of shop please. Would like to know all of my options.

concealer404 06-24-2014 10:18 AM

I've never actually seen rust inside that manifold, coated or not. For whatever that's worth.

Also hadn't rusted at all even on the outside since the last time i blasted it 18 months ago.

The BeGi stuff on our Thooper Red Miata has similar looking coatings on the same parts, and it's holding up just fine. Not sure if the insides were done, though.

In all honesty this was just something to do for the downtime of the car. But put a blanket over the housing and don't have to worry about it :P

And Fab9 CoPs spark blowout.

Anyone selling an awesome radiator?

I did a compression check today
140, ~130, 140, 115-120

:/ I'm a little upset about the numbers on this pretty new engine. But may have been due to not tightening the tester all the way (it got stuck in #1)

Alejo_NIN 06-25-2014 02:01 PM

those numbers look very low...and have more than 15% between them...right?

Impuls 06-26-2014 01:57 AM

8:1 compression is reason for low numbers. I gotta find that formula they use to figure out what you should have

Alejo_NIN 06-26-2014 09:10 AM

formula is CR*Atmospheric Pressure = Cylinder pressure
so 8.1*14.7(1BAR)=119.07psi

so, you should be good...

18psi 06-26-2014 09:13 AM

Except the swing between highest and lowest is still over 15%, which is not good.

Leafy 06-26-2014 09:18 AM

That doesnt seem right. My 8.6:1 engine was making 165psi right after break in and I considered that to be on the low side. And the stock 9:1 NA8 engine is supposed to make 180psi.

Alejo_NIN 06-26-2014 09:43 AM

i may have just took that out of my ass...

Alejo_NIN 06-26-2014 09:51 AM

i think it is also dependant on ring gap..being turbo having a loser gap is better for heat expansion a sopposed to na which benefits from tighter gaps.

concealer404 06-26-2014 10:17 AM
