A vanilla T3/T04E with a stage 1 wheel in a .48 fills the gap between the straight T3 60/48 and the T3/T04Etrim stage 3.

braineack,
The .42 housing also has a smaller inlet than the .60. The more boost, the more air you need to suck in. The smaller inlet becomes a restriction/limitation.

A vanilla T04E w/ a stage 1 .48a/r turbine is not something I reccomend. The lowest flowing T04E wheel is a 46trim and its around 400whp capable. The stage 1 turbine isnt efficient for any more than 300whp so why use a compressor thats capable of more and hinder it with a weak turbine wheel? A T3 S60 compressor is also a little large for the stage 1 wheel but it does work up to 300whp.

A .46 trim T04E is really only good to ~325 whp within a decent efficiency (%74). Makes it a pretty good match for a stage 1 wheel.

Different strokes I guess.

Well, the compressor flows 43lb/min and even though like you said it gets less efficient past that its still not inefficient. As long as you can stay in the middle area of the compressor map you are fine. A turbo doesnt operate in its most efficient area all the time, thats why you use a decent IC and it will take care of you as long as your compressor efficiency is 65% and above. Under 65% or so thats when the air is getting heated more than I would personally like. Plus you have to factor in that you have a big wheel mismatch with the exducer diameter of the T04E compressor being a lot larger than the T3 stage 1.

Hell I'll probably happy with my T3 .60/48. Even if I overspin it some it's not like I'll put more than 5-6K on the car in a year.

That's the good thing about the Garretts vs the Mitsus. You can try any combo you like for relatively cheap with simple swaps.

I liked my T3 60/48 a lot. I ran a 60 trim and S60 trim and honestly couldnt tell any difference between the 2 wheels. The S60 only flows 1lb more, so unless you have superhuman powers youll never notice any difference.

I emailed them this moring when I saw it. They had a pic of a AFPR instead of the current pic. I've got one of the BEGI overstock '99-00 T3 manifolds so I was going to see if they'd separate them 'cause I don't have a downpipe for my install yet.
