Mine is on the way. I will get it together as soon as it gets here. Excited! SO basically you will have to do more than click a Buy Now button if you want this intake. Alec put a lot of work into this a couple years ago and he owns the design so it can't be sold but you can have someone make it for you under his license. THIS IS EASY to get made now.

Get it printed and buy the parts. I was told that it will be $80-$100 with the new material for the printed part,.

 

So I started putting it all together. If you are using a MAF don't get a 2.75" 45* elbow. Get a 2.5" to 2.75" 45* elbow. The air filter side of the MAF would fit better with a 2.5" silicone hose instead of 2.75". Intake side of the MAF is 2.75" and the air filter side is 2.5". The 2.5" to 2.75" 90* elbow works great.

Mine is done. I hate the colors but I can live with it. With the completed 3d printed part they also sent me the two that didn't turn out perfect. So I have two extra intakes that could be made to work. Huh. Here are pics:

 

So here is what you need to make one of these. It is very simple. If you have the stock airbox, ecu, and MAF this is what you will need to put this CAI together. 4-6HP some say. Others can't stop telling you otherwise.
You will love it and I highly recommend it!

The tube is acquired by having it 3d printed. Alec designed this and licensed it so that nobody can just setup shop and start pumping these out. You have to take the time to go and get it made. There are places on the internet that do this for you. You need the design file that Alec created from his website at Cold Air Intake. The file is called release_1piece.STL. Once you have that file you can start.

There are places on-line that assist people like us in getting things 3d printed. They take the file and find the printer closest to you to do the work. They give you a price and off you go, $80-$100 is what you should expect for the tube to be printed.

The material I used and suggest is a NYLON made by Universal Fibers (A government/military contractor) under the brand of Breathe 3DP Phoenix

1. The intake tube. Go to 3dhubs.com and get started. You will need the file now. Go through the steps and get one made. You have all of the information you need. I can't help you from this point on. Put on big boy pants and ask the man at the counter for help. It won't hurt and is super easy.

2. Now you need the rest of the stuff. Here it is.

Near as I can tell freakaccident spent ~$300-325 depending on what he had one hand. At a group rate it looks like I can offer them at $225+Shipping while creating a slightly more professional appearing kit.

 

If asmasm is cool with it, I'm in. Although I could go with a single silicon elbow as I'm on megasquirt and don't run a MAF.

I'm slammed today with a sick kid home from daycare and a bunch of work, I'll try and send an email in the next 24 hours.

 

My friend, I am not trying to make money on your back and I'll show you the invoices to prove it. Your original statement said you were ok with people selling them, but not a commercial run, which this is far from. If I provide people credit for print time, and they provide the file you have given them, it is legal. That said, I'd rather not argue it. If you do not want to endorse it, I won't challenge it. It is no sweat off my back, devoting machines to a break even project is costing me money.

 

I recently did this setup. Added a bit of growl at WOT which sounds nice too.

 

I would recommend you recent builders tape the entire exterior of the thing with some sort of heat tape. Not only will this help it reflect the heat from that radiator, but it reduces the likelihood of a crack occurring, and if it does, your intake is still airtight. Mine cracked almost instantly and I ran it for another year or so held together with HVAC tape.

 

Mine was printed out of some voodoo ABS mixture that had mil spec numbers on the specifications sheet and it looks bullet proof. Mine isn't going to crack. I guess the early ones printed out of snail snot are fragile but mine is durable feeling. The dude above can print the durable ones.

 

Did you not get a power increase? Am I the only one that thinks this woke their car up? My car hits the rev limiter a lot faster now and I can chirp the tires shifting into second gear now. The noise is nice but I really do feel the little bump.

 

It's brittle plastic in a very hot environment being put into a hole that it doesn't exactly fit in (it will rub against the hood on one side and the radiator on the other). But maybe yours won't.
