I have seen several Capri turbo motors apart and there was no diferance from a B6T GTX. I suspect whoever you got them from swapped them out. The Capri did have slightly different engine management I think however. And when Mazda Built the 1.8L BPT it used miata rods in everything but the GTR version which used better forged rods.

Correction. the XR2 was a later model car 1991-1994 it probably came with a big nose crank and miata rods. The big rods stopped being produced in 1990 I bet.

There appear to be some discrepancies here.

Post 4 holds to what I'm claiming.

From everything I've read, anything PRE '89 got the beefier b6t rods. Anything POST 89 (Ford/Mercury especially) got the standard miata rods.

Of course, this is all internet speak. I've never owned an XR2 or a GTX, so I have no personal frame of reference.

I believe the XR2 motors I have seen the insides of were austrailian or japanese imports probably pre 1990.

Do the Capris have short or long nose cranks?

They had “Big nose” after the changeover date in 91 would be my guess. Long nose was a replacement only on 1.6's and standard on 1.8l's pre changeover date in 91 only. I did have a long nose 1.8l escort motor and I have seen a long nose BPT that wasn’t a big nose.
