No doubt they will do it. But how long? I just think if it was simplified easy power could be made quick.

Do you really think someone is going to do that on a brand new car still under warranty?
The only people that will mod extensively will be shops that would buy as company car/shop car and those should probably focus on new technology development and support then throwing 90's tech into a new car adn calling it a day. I dunno tho, just my thoughts I see so much really cool stuff on other platforms it makes me sad that only in the recent few years we've started seeing cool stuff like more ecu's, modern fueling, modern turbocharging, etc on our cars start to get developed. |
I see your point and even agree with it for the long term. I just have the view that D.I. is to port as port was to carbs/T.B.I. It will take time for the aftermarket to catch up. For the short term, there is low hanging fruit.

With DI you can have your compression and turbo it too. You're just going to have to wait for it to get supported by stuff that has support. Thats a clunky sentence that doesnt make sense but let me explain. The skyactiv motors are already supported by MazdaEdit, but the support of mazda edit is turble. The support of megasqurit is high, but no one sells and off the shelf way to make a MS do DI, everything involves the factory driver box from a toyota or an older mazda DI motor and some custom work. And I dont see the first one changing until the motor gets put in something more interesting than the 3 and the 6, and I dont see the 2nd one changing till DIYAT finishes their current work and starts working on product improvements.

I, for one, welcome our belly button piston overlords.

I find that piston oddly erotic.

Considering the issues the DISI motor had from using DI with your standard dished pistons, that looks quite interesting.

The thubawu boys are having really good success with DI on the new DI wrx, many run e85 on the OEM injectors and make buttloads of power/torque on the 10.1 or something like that. Granted, that's way less than 12,13,whatever but still a step in the right direction
|
Well what matters is the dynamic compression ratio anyway. Need to research the sky active 2.0 to figure that out.
On the DISI 2.3 (10.5 static) e85 mixtures are a miracle fuel. I run a mixture of 7gal 87 and 5 gal e85 and I can reach MBT (and past) at 25psi on a 2871 .55 A/R turbo, putting me at 400whp. On standard 93 I was knock limited at about 330whp. A 3/9 mixture of 93 also gets me there but the extra e85 is good insurance. I had to add an injector before the throttle body to support the fueling I needed, others run similar setups without the extra injector, but at leaner mixtures than I like. |
Just got to pump up the fuel pressure of the lower pressure pump and you'll get more fuel. You should be able to do this with the ecu.

No that doesn't work at all. The feed pressure to the high pressure pump has nothing to do with the resulting output of the high pressure pump. The high pressure pump is positive dispacement and rail pressure is closed loop controlled via a feed solenoid. We can and do boost the pressure target in the ECU, but there are a few issues. The first is if the pressure relief valve is constantly exercised it fails, the second is we can't currently change out the rail pressure sensor and recalibrate, and when it rails out it causes fuel cut. Lastly the pressure is stock at 1600psi, we bump to 1800, but how high do you really want to push it Before worries about leaks/bursting fuel Lines, and at some point the injectors won't be able to open.

just buy it and KA swap.
|
no no no
B6 swap |
4AGE swap or nothing at all.

Right, its a positive displacement pump, higher input pressure = higher output pressure. Or just you know, have the injectors modded like the diesel guys who are making real power.

this is about to become a leafy thread
