A discussion with all the **** talk that this one has, at my place of work would warrant a stack of fives on someone's desk and a number on the board for an over/under wager. I think if the OP's diff hangs together, he wins against shitstang. The stang will run 15.2 with no real substantial mods. I would put a 14.0 on the board for the Miata, and I'd put a five-spot on the over. I say he runs a 14.2. My 1.6 running 14psi boost through the IC, I say would run 13.8 or slower. I would think it would be tough to get a Miata into the lower 13.0/high 12, I'd be interested to see what hustlefucker's or Savington's does in the quarter.

How do you figure it would be hard. People do it all the time, and there are plenty of members on here that have done it. Go to the timeslip section and see.

 

I might be missing something here, but why should the Miata even run slicks on ths one? We are talking about a pretty easy to spool turbo running low boost. Of all the setups out there, this one needs race rubber far less than say a 2860 setup. So no need to risk the diff. Just do a mild launch out and then nail it. With the Torsen so much the better, but still no real need for slicks.

With 20 inch wheels and a mostly stock long block save for the cam (maybe) I bet on the Miata in a big way unless there is some BS involved and the Mustang is spraying or something along those lines. A wheel size like that kills the gearing of the car, the verts are relatively heavy, and Windsor engines in general are slow unless modded well. They are certanly a cheap engine to mod, but in stockish form they are not too scary. We are talking about an engine that makes low 200s HP in stock form, and about 300TQ. Put some crap mods on it, allow for age and probable abuse, and it's not much of a threat.

If he is worried about passing tech then he will almost certanly not be able to run slicks either. Slicks and a vert will generally get a pretty strict tech inspection compared to a hard-top on street tires.

Thanks! I did a decent bit of drag racing with my 93 Laser back in the day. Now looking at putting a lot of those parts on a Miata

One of the things I learned from the drag strip is that generally most of the cars there dont run as quick/fast as they ought to. You will see some thunderous V8 with a camshaft that has more lift than some cranks have stroke, and it'll run a 12.80, then a turbo car boucing off the limiter run a 14.5, and then some quiet little stockish car will go and snap off an 11.something.

If this 'stang is what the OP says it is I am betting on a high 14. Windsors are exactly as good as the person who puts on the parts. Which means a smart guy can run 10s with a reasonable investment while a goombah with 87 glued on bits and a turbonator will have car that looks/sounds like it will trap 130 while it actually runs mid 14s. Pretty funny considering that often the same guys then turn around and talk about ricers.
