I found the mystery oil leak:

I'm calling Garrett pretty soon today and see what they say.

I'm sad to see you shopping for inconel valves.

might you still want some tasty stainless intake valves?

Probably. I need to get the car apart and a feel for prices because I have a lot of bills lately.

Does anyone have a telephone number to the people at Garrett? I keep getting sent back to "a retailer" and no retailer is going to help me with a 1-year old turbo.

Here is a link to their whois page which has a phone number. You might be able to give it a call and then get a number to use. I used this method to get in contact with actual people at EFR.

Have you called Begi since that is who you got your turbo from originally?

I feel like an idiot, but what are we talking about in the picture? I see all the oil but what am I missing?

In the first picture he posted, right below the "A" there is a little black dot. That dot is the hole he is talking about that is leaking oil.

Ahhhh. It is glaring now. I wonder if the wall there is just that thin that a small casting error would allow that or if this is a large error. Either way the effect is a large problem.

That is ugly, but I've never heard of Garret actually warrantying a turbo. They always find a user error and make a CHRA exchange offer.

Good luck man. That sure looks like a bad cast to me.

I'm going to be hard pressed to not talk **** about them on every forum on Earth if that is the case...but I expect Garrett to be just as reasonable as I am. Worst case denial means I weld this up myself.

I really wish BW would make all the EFR Turbos in full V-Bands.

Set head on table with chambers pointing up. Pour liquid into combusions chambers where valves are closed. You can use glycerine, kerosene, or paint thinner. Check for leaking down into ports.
