I'm not sure about some of those girls. Others, I'm very sure about.

I wonder how many hundreds of times he had had to replace the transaxle.

I'm quite sure that that does not appeal to me one bit. I prefer that my woman look like a woman.

Interesting... He's using what appear to be the reduction boxes from a type 2 (Bus), however those are IRS (CV) axles, and I thought the boxes were only used on the pre-1968 swingaxle design...

Image unrelated, just a random shot I took with my cell-phone recently near the Lackawana terminal, which is totally not post-processed in any way:

Im almost certain that those were only used with the swingaxle transmissions as well. But its a VW so maybe sometime in the past 50 years someone made some adapter for some reason.

In the formula vees we would run those bus transmissions (without the reduction gear boxes obviously) as a "long box" for big tracks.

Interesting... I knew that the T2 gearbox didn't allow you to flip the R&P like the T1 did (or am I thinking T4?), but I never considered that without the reduction boxes, the axles would inherently spin in the "correct" direction for a mid-engine application all the same.

So, you used T1 axles and hubs with a T2 gearbox then?

Im not sure which ones you could or could not flip the R&P in, and until you just mentioned it I never even made the connection that they wouldnt have to be flipped in the bus transmission without the reduction boxes.
There were a lot of parts I pulled out of the junkyard to put on our cars but transmissions were always sourced from other racers and builders. They would work some sort of rebuild voodoo on them to get some small reduction in drivetrain losses, so I never worked on one.

It was always like this:
"This is a short/long box, put it in your car."
"Okay."
*a few races later*
"3rd gear exploded."
"You were shifting it too hard."
"Okay."

That was with 50hp and skinny slicks. I have no idea what kind of work drag racers must have to do to keep those transmissions together"

Almost forgot a pic

I just went and checked; T2 boxes, whether swing or IRS, cannot be flipped- they are asymmetrical and the diff only fits in one way. The early ones, with the reduction boxes, inherently turn "backwards," so they are suitable for mid-engine use without the boxes.

I'm fairly certain that the "work" consists mostly of writing $10k checks to Mendeola, Weddle, Rancho, etc.
