I find the definition of "prank" to be stretched quite far these days.

They should call it what it is: we're going to simply stimulate your normal self-preservation reflex reaction and film it.

A real prank requires time and planning and deceit. triggering a reflex is stupid.

LEG KICK PRANK!
we hit people on the knee with a hammer and you'll never believe what happens next!

FACE BLOW PRANK!
we blow air suddenly into peoples eyes and you'll be shocked at what they do!

SWOOP AND SQUAT PRANK!
we cut our partner off in traffic so they slam on the brakes really hard and what the car behind them does will BLOW. Your. MIND.

I'd like to know if it's worse to take the brunt of the ball to your knuckles placed over your skull, vs. taking the hit straight to your skull.

 

Hard to say if it's the top or back of your skull. I'd probably take the likelihood of a non-life-threatening injury to my hands than even a remote possibility of a life-threatening injury to my head.

In any case, I do not recommend trying to catch it with your face.

 

Assuming that the impact is strong enough to fracture the skull, then it's probably desirable for that energy to instead be dissipated by fracturing the bones of the hand instead. Consider it a crumple zone.

I did a bunch of sale/demo videos for a cranio-implant manufacturer way back. I was amazed at what kind of damage the skull can sustain and still avoid (obvious) brain damage. Never assume somebody is wearing a hat to only hide their bald spot.

True, but in terms of convalescence / recovery, I'd still rather smash a metacarpal than sustain a skull fracture.

Not to mention what happens when a baseball hits something like the zygomatic bone.
