Actually, those pumps are designed to come out far to allow you to pull the pump and fill the other end.

Sams club has hoses so long that will allow the hose to go over the roof of an suv and then go down to the filler neck.

Agreed the hose should be from the top just like the japanese pumps.

They did at one time, and I'm fairly certain every technician threatened to castrate the engineers that designed them. All of the hydraulic meters, valves, etc are on the top of the pump and need more than an ~8ft ladder to work on safely.
I've only ever worked on ones with the old monochrome LCD, but in theory they could have had a color screen.

"Road" to Uzi Island.

It is a road during low tide, a causeway when the water is high.
Runs through incredibly dense mangroves, and is somewhat elevated - which means they just cleared a path and dumped some rocks.
Bone jarring, bumpy *** drive at any speed.

A first for me, I had to yield to crabs crossing the road...
