OK, so I grew up before the Miata. I did this with my '40 Chevy.

So, question about the slipper clutch.

It's designed to slip, therefore needs to be changed more often. I'm sure a quick blast down the strip isn't a big deal but 1000 miles of street driving on race week has to wreck the friction surface. Is there something they can do to not let it slip as much, engage at a lower rpm?

You didn't post the follow up...

Pretty badass. 1.2x 60ft times are damn quick.

Back when I was drag racing bikes (street tire/no bar classes), all the really fast guys were using slipper clutches. It was pretty new tech then, at least in the 'street bike' classes.

If you have them adjusted correctly, they don't slip that much. It basically softens the engagement so it doesn't shock the tire as hard and allows you to sidestep the clutch rather than have to modulate it. Generally, some adjustment will be required for track conditions, so it's really a drag race only thing.

As promised, I have created what I believe to be the most horrible "Sorry, Jon" image which can possibly exist:

The slipper clutch has some pressure on it.. maybe 40-50ft/tq will break it at idle so for putting around town it should be fine. As you increase the input shaft rpm the centrifugal force pulls the weights out (screws) and it increases the pressure put on the disk so it holds more power.

I'm actually curious how stiff the clutch is at 7k rpm with all that weight it.

^ Found him.

Despite the fact that I'm sure the product was awful (because Soviet) I feel that the USSR was greatly ahead of the US in the field of coin-operated beer vending technology, and I find this deeply troubling.

I'm hoping to have video of my idiot neighbor blowing/burning himself up. I set my old phone in the window to record him burning leaves and pouring gas onto the wet, smoldering pile directly out of the plastic can.

For now, you'll have to settle for me finally finding the Miata all the Big and Tall guys dream about.

I've been begging management to get some women in the shop. We desperately need some diversity.
