I like this guy's videos in general, but this one in particular is a great piece which analyzes the concept of truth as it applies to scientific studies, peer-reviewed journals, publication bias, statistical manipulation, and the whole concept of trusting authority, and also the whole concept of rejecting authority.

My boat's trailer has hydraulic disc brakes with the master cylinder part of the sliding tongue coupler. The mass of the boat/trailer compresses the master cylinder as the tow vehicle brakes, so braking force produced by the trailer brakes is proportional to the deceleration of the tow vehicle. The trailer wiring takes a flat 5 pin connector, where the 5th wire is the backup lights. That actuates a solenoid that keeps the brakes from activating when you back up the trailer. It works surprisingly well. That thing almost stops as well as without the trailer.

Joe got me looking for more videos by "this guy". Following is one on bowling that, once again, supports the hypothesis that improvements in sports comes mostly from equipment advances:

Political / Social Warning: For women's sports, the latest equipment change that has improved scoring is the incorporation of *********.

Yeah, I've been binging his stuff lately.

He covers a huge range of topics in a very engaging manner. One of his videos, for instance, is all about his research into optimizing his own videos' thumbnail images and titles in order to perform best within the Youtube ranking. It's a very meta sort of discussion, as you can tell that he doesn't particularly like the fact that he's being forced to game the system.

I honestly had no idea that oil was selectively applied to bowling lanes in very deliberate patterns and thicknesses.

There's a podcast which I often listen to, Science vs. In it, self-admitted heterosexual and cis-female host Wendy Zuckerman does deep-dives into topics at the intersection of science and politics. In the past, I'd have described the program as being fairly objective, with perhaps a slight liberal leaning. But over the past couple of years, as the public discourse has been getting more and more ridiculous, her attempts to de-clutter topics of meaningful importance have been sounding more and more like propaganda.

As an example, the episode to which I listened while mowing the lawn and washing the car on Saturday, Trans Kids: The Misinformation Battle:

https://gimletmedia.com/shows/scienc...rmation-battle

It's about exactly what you think it's about.

To paraphrase a few points: "No, physicians aren't performing genital mutilation on toddlers. They're merely prescribing drugs to suppress puberty, and then waiting until they're teenagers before permanently altering their bodies with surgery and hormones."

or... "While it's true that women who experienced male puberty have a physical advantage over other women in athletics, so do women who were born with a predisposition to being taller than average. Should tall people be excluded from playing basketball just because they have a natural advantage over people whose genes didn't grant them that characteristic at birth?"

or... "Besides, it's not like athletes who transitioned to female are completely unbeatable. Here's a trans-woman who lost one of her first five competitions!"

But... I literally just noticed that this is the pictures thread and not the gen-wu or politics threads, so here's a picture of a cat:

Joe... It was because we were in the picture thread that the "Warning" disclosure was placed in front of the transgender comment.

This is a great headlamp with a fully removable / rechargeable 18650 battery that will drive it for a 16 hour day:

NEBO Transcend (no pun intended with the 'Trans'...cend)

Also, Re: a scientific objection to present day transgenderism presentations like you mention above, see the work of Colin Wright of Quillette.

With that, I will cease non-image entertainment within this forum.
