As an aside, since Spring happened on Monday, and it's now summer in Chicago, I finally got off of my *** and installed the summer rubber on the Miata, replaced the battery (it'd died completely from sitting unused with no float charger for months), and drove the car this morning.

After four months in the Juke, I fully expected the usual "wow, this seat sure is low" reaction. What I'd forgotten about, however, is how when I first drove the Juke, the steering was comedically light. Like "I can easily turn the wheel from lock to lock, while the car isn't moving, with my pinkie finger."

So this morning, driving a car with good ole' fashioned hydraulic steering once again, it felt like a truck at first. It's amazing how quickly you get used to zero road-feel and a steering wheel that feels more like a computer peripheral than something connected to the wheels of a vehicle.

 

I miss the simpler times.

 

 

 

I grew up in the 80s and 90s (born in '83) and my childhood very much resembled that.

 

 

 

 

 

Anyone here watching Picard? I just finished Season 2 over the weekend. It's honestly better than I'd expected, despite the frequent sappy forced-nostalgia moments.

Did you know that toe-shortening is, for real, an actual cosmetic surgery procedure you can have done?

They literally slice a piece of bone out of your toes to make them all line up. Apparently this is a thing that women who are self-conscious about their second toe being longer than the first actually have done. They can even lengthen the lower-ordered toes by inserting bone into them.

I am not making this up. And, having had a similar thing done to my right hand years ago (not for cosmetic reasons, but because I pulled a Vash), I can surmise that the recovery period is probably horrible and it's doubtful that you'd be able to walk at all for at least a month, probably longer.

The term "de-clawing" is misleading. The procedure actually involves the amputation of the distal phalanx of each digit. Effectively, imagine cutting off each of your fingers and toes at the last knuckle, to eliminate the portion containing the nail bed. Basically the same thing.
