I just use first or reverse..

****?? doesn't the car slow down too much, you need a higher gear otherwise the clutch will just absorb the speed and you won't start.

 

Just have to side-step it and have enough speed going. I have a light flywheel, maybe that helps.

In first or reverse you dont have to be going very fast to get the engine cranking quickly.

 

I always referred to it as "pop starting".

The manual says not to push start the car because it could damage the emissions equiptment. Ive done it, not too hard.

 

I don't EVER worry about a dead battery. My driveways are VERY steep.

I have sat in the drivers seat and propelled the car forwards with my foot and popped the clutch too, though it might be hard getting your foot in quick enough if you're tall.
