Says it runs through two jets. But yea, no jet is going to go any faster than 120 or so.
There's no way he actually hooked up a jet engine that big to the actual jet pumps in the boat. I don't know much about T-58's, but 1500shp sounds about right, which is why I know it's not hooked up to the 100'ish HP capable factory pumps. So for just the added thrust, maybe 1000lbs or so, should be a nice boost... something to talk about at the bar if you live through it.

This thing sounds like a pos, but if the tune doesn't look totally stupid and it doesn't seem blown up it might be worth offering like $2300 for. Even that might be a bit much I dunno. They've been trying to sell it for a month now for $3000. But uh, getting this thing smogged in California with that "smog legal greddy turbo kit" would be impossible unless you know somebody. Just by looking at that engine bay pic I can see 2-3 things that would make it fail.

Having owned a turbo Miata in California, I see nothing at all under that hood which wouldn't make it fail.
The days of "knowing a guy" had already come to an end when I lived there, and my understanding is that it's gotten even more strict since then.
Pro tip: in California, the seller of a vehicle is required by law to provide the buyer with a valid smog inspection certificate dated within the past 90 days.
If someone is selling a car in CA, and they do not already have a certificate in hand, that's a pretty good clue the car is going to be unregisterable.
Yeah it looks like it has been crashed into all kinds of stuff. That front end being a much brighter shade of white really makes you go hmmmmmmmm. Also what's going on with that roll-bar? Is cutting through the rear deck like that normal? But yeah I used to be a smog tech and if this thing rolled into the bay I'd just laugh, show the other mechanics, close the hood and back it out. Once a early 90's sentra se-r with a equally sketchy turbo setup rolled into the bay and that's exactly what we did. It was pretty quick though. And yeah the days of knowing somebody is basically over. A year ago when I was still smogging I heard a shop down in Redding would pass anything for like $250. No idea if they're still around, but probably not. The BAR is awfully good at finding out about stuff like that. Anyway this thing has just about every red flag ever. Probably would be a hoot to mess around with if you could get it for like, free, though.
Not sure about how Cali does things but I heard that in VA they send your smog data directly to DMV and if it fails your registration is suspended. Don't quote me on that though. I'm in South Carolina where we dont have emissions. Catalytic converters? Is that one of them liberal mufflers y'all?

When I lived there, a failure didn't result in automatic suspension (you could repair and then re-test for so long as you still had time left on your current registration), but the computer at the shop did send its data directly to the BMV.
When I had the turbo '92 in San Diego, I basically returned the setup to stock for inspection. Not naturally-aspirated, but what a stock Greddy kit looks like. Had the CARB EO sticker on the firewall, and even had the RRFPR installed, albeit I'd gutted the internals so that it was just a pass-through. Removed the MBC, the intercooler, all of the bits that aren't on the EO paperwork. I did leave the nice 2.5" downpipe in place, as there was nothing remarkable-looking about it. Stock ignition coil as well.
I then took the car to a small, one-bay shop in a less-nice part of town, run by an old man who had a bunch of motorcycles parked in and around the shop. No funny-business (I didn't attempt to bribe him or anything), just scouted around until I found a shop that looked like it was run by a friendly car-guy.
That white monstrosity, by comparison... There's just no way in the world that is ever going to pass a CA visual inspection. I have to wonder if the kid knew this while he was in the process of building it.
And, yeah. Even if I lived in a state with no emissions inspections, I would not take that car if it was free and included a case of beer.
Every now and then, I peruse AutoTrader to look at the market value of NDs in my area. Not that I have any immediate plans to replace my current car, more out of a sense of curiosity and the knowledge that it will inevitably die.
This past week, I found two postings (both from used-car dealers) which were just utterly baffling:
First, they actually did the usual interior detail, sprayed shiny stuff on the top & tire sidewalls, exterior wash & wax (including under-hood), and generally all of the typical things that a dealer would do to a used car to make it look less horrible.
Except, of course, making even a token attempt to repair the crash damage. (I honestly wonder how / why this car ever found its way into the used-car auction system at all.)
The second was a bit further down the page, where it links you to "Similar Vehicles from this Dealer"
Ah, yes. A Porsche 911 is very similar to a Mazda Miata. I mean, they both have four wheels, right?

First, if you clicked here after searching for the words "turbo" and "diesel" and then expected to pick up something cheap that you could use to "roll coal" do us both a favor and hit the little back button in your browser.
What I have here for sale is a 1987 Mercedes-Benz 190D Turbodiesel, in taupe. It's the W201 "Compact Executive Chassis" and is equipped with the legendary 2.5 liter 5 cylinder OM602 diesel engine. This engine with the turbo was ONLY available in the W201 for one year (1987) and chances are you'll never see one again. A quick way to identify an 190D Turbo is the unique and fully functional cold air intake vent located in the passenger side fender, right behind the headlight. She's got a lot of miles, but if you know anything about Mercedes-Benz diesels this shouldn't deter you from this vehicle. If you would like to know a bit more about the W201 or the OM602, I've provided links at the bottom of this post for additional reading.

No expense was spared during its production and that shows today in the quality of the materials and workmanship, even some 30+ years and 357,000+ miles down the road. Designed before finite element analysts and "value engineering" this car was not designed to be a disposable commodity, but to be a premium transportation option for discerning consumers. If your still reading and paying attention, then this car may be for you.
Initially purchased in Kansas in 1987, it stayed there until purchased by the second owner in 1991. As the owners family grew and moved around, it spent time in Montana, Arizona and finally Northern California. It changed hands several times after that stayed in that family until I purchased the car in August of this year. The previous owners used the car as a daily driver for quite a number of years, and later in its life to commute to and from Paradise (and later Chico) down to Oroville and back. The owners were very diligent and consistent about maintenance, and almost all work was done by local Ernst Mercedes Specialist in Paradise using genuine Mercedes OEM parts when available. For example, they had the oil changed like clockwork every 6 months, approximately 5,000 miles. How do I know this? Not because they told me, but because I have receipts. For literally everything. Thanks to the diligent efforts of said previous owner and family I have literally DECADES of maintenance receipts in a big folder.
Highlights from the maintenance history include:
243,535 - Transmission replaced (2008)
314,973 - Head gasket (2014)
319,739 - Timing chain & tensioner (2014)
325,191 - New tires, valve stems, balance & alignment (2015)
333,506 - New water pump (2016)
350,702 - New battery (2017)

I purchased this vehicle from the previous owners after the heater core split and dumped the contents of the cooling system into the interior as the previous owner was headed to work. The vehicle didn't overheat but it was one heck of a mess. Replacement of said heater core involved removing the entire dash and heater system, a process that I believe books at something like 14 hours of shop time, and that doesn't include cleaning coolant out of the carpet, underpad and dash. With current labor rates, the previous owners were looking at a substantial repair bill, one that did not make sense for a 30 year old car.
I had a friend who wanted it so I purchased the car, bypassed the leaking heater core, flushed the cooling system, changed the oil. then my friend changed their mind and bought a Honda. /sigh. Not knowing what else to do with this car, I proceeded to solo drive it 3,400 miles for an event called the 2018 Monterey Car Weeeeak Lemons Rally, because that seemed like a great idea! The Lemons Rally is not a race per se, but more a gathering of like minded car enthusiasts traveling in small groups along back roads and highways, competing against each other earning points for visiting unique predetermined locations set by the organizers. Think of it more like a poker run or a British gentleman's car tour rather than a cars flying through the air offroad rally. This event sent us from Seaside to San Pedro, then down to San Diego before two days in the desert via Yuma Arizona and the absolute middle of nowhere. The Rally then ran back to Santa Cruz and Seaside to close the loop in conjunction with the Concours d'Lemons Monterey. Even through insane 120°+ Death Valley temperatures and a grueling driving schedule, the car never overheated and never skipped a beat. I finished 18th in the Rally not due to lack of effort, but because my vehicle of choice was TOO nice, and TOO reliable. You don't earn points at this event for surviving the day unscathed and getting to your destination on time. You can read more about the Lemons Rally in the link provided below.
Post rally I disassembled the entire interior of the car, replaced the heater core and several other HVAC components, cleaned EVERYTHING, lubed as appropriate and reassembled it. I spent literally months of free time on this project, and I documented it all on the Instagram account @klienbraunerbenz that I set up for the rally. There you will find tons of addition pics, silly photos, and even a 47° cold start video. Flipping through that album you will start to get some idea of the work I put into cleaning this thing up. Cons
Like many things in this world, the car is not perfect. It's exterior is starting to show its age with door dings, some fading, and many tiny rock chips. The sun roof doesn't open (but it also does not leak) and the power antenna is stuck. Cold starts are a bit rough until the glow plugs kick on, but I've never had a failure to start or stop. The vacuum operated door locks that worked perfectly throughout the summer have become somewhat hinky now that winter is upon us, and while the air conditioner works, it baaaaarely works. It was not enough to keep up with the extreme desert heat during the rally this summer and probably just needs a can of R-12, but good luck finding one. The seats are pretty firm and very "German" so are a little different that what you may be used to, unless of course you have a history with 80s Mercedes and BMWs.
I've enjoyed my time with this car, but I just don't drive it enough to justify another car. I had a friend who wanted it but then changed their mind at the last minute, so now you get a chance! This car needs a patient, adult owner who understands the peculiarities of older diesel engines, cold war era German cars, and is willing to put in the time and effort to keep it clean and well maintained. This is not a car that you leap into and drive away in the morning like everyone seems to do with modern fuel injected gasoline powered vehicles. You need to be willing to chill out for a solid 3-4 minutes in the morning while she warms up and sings you the song of her people. For example, this would not be good first car for an impatient teenager. This car does its best work cruising on the highway, and eats up miles like a chubby kid at pizza party. It does fine around town, but its geared to cruise rather than sit in stop and go traffic. She glides down the highway like a magnificent taupe shark.
The heater blows hot, the interior no longer smells like coolant, and the car is ready to find a new home. She's got good tires with plenty of tread left, doesn't leak fluids, has no rust, brakes feel good, and plenty enough power to get you where you need to go. I've got a clean title in my name, and registration is paid up to the end of October 2019.
