Car supposedly drives fine as long as you don't floor and overboost it. Compression checks out fine.
So I'll check the smog monitors - if they're all clear, it should pass smog with the stock intake and exhaust. Then fix it afterwards.
After much trepidation I decided on an 09+ Boxster S instead of a Cayman S. It will be for weekend trips with the wife. Rollbar extension and track tires, and it will be good for track days too. I will wait for the right car with the right options (PASM (adaptive suspension) and Sport Plus (track mode on the dual-clutch tranny)). I'm willing to wait til winter.
The EVO X will be a gap filler car. I wanna experience AWD and torque vectoring and the SST (dual clutch tranny). Probably keep it stock-ish, buy track wheels/tires and go. May end up being my main 4-door car.

And $550 fluid changes. And they overheat stock. Don't hold more than about 350whp reliably unless built, but that is cubic $$$$$. Needs a cover and weatherproofing on the AWD pump.
I did a ton of research on the EVO X a few years ago before I bought my Mustang. Crazy maintenance intensive, some dealerships don't even have the tools to bleed the AWD system.
I probably still would have bought one, but back then ~4 years ago, there wasn't even a Mistu dealer in Tulsa, so I passed.

Total Cats: 42
I've always wondered: I know some people go into their tunes to turn off the P0420 they would get from removing their cats. Does this keep the catalyst monitor from running or you could theoretically still plug in the EIS and pass smog?

So I got trolled by my new beater forester today, and I'll share the story cause it's amusing:
picked up the car last week, needs maint, super dirty, kid is absolutely clueless about anything car related, the whole 9. it showed half a tank of gas when bought.
drove it a couple days, lots of things to fix, clean, just overall satisfy my ocd. Yesterday it starts cutting out while driving. the CEL is on, but there's like 3 codes for things I already kinda knew about when buying and haven't fixed. I'm thinking dirty maf or crank sensor going out. Car dies 3 streets away from my house and will not re-start no matter what. I finally pull it home.
Today I buy a new MAF, new crank sensor, and start diagnosing. Replaced each, it won't start. I pull 2 plugs. They look ok. I yank timing covers and check belt, it's ok. Check for spark, car has spark. Lastly, I pull off the fuel line and it's like barely spitting any fuel out. hmm
I'm thinking "fuel pump". I yank the pump cradle and look inside, tank is DRY. Like, not eve a drop of fuel.
WAT
Anyways, I put gas in it and it fires up like a champ. Apparently gas level sender is all janky and reads only half tank and up, LOL. Biggest troubleshooting effort for simplest issue ever.
Not sure what I'll do for the time being. Guess I'll have to monitor miles per tank til I figure out a solution.
So that's my coolstorybro story of the day.
