Valid point indeed, I'm not going to rush with any changes. Next science project will be back to back testing of this vs a 3" catless open downpipe to hopefully see exactly what the difference is up top. We'll see if curiosity will "kill the cat" :likecat:

I'm in the enjoy the power you have camp! I'm not sure I'd mess with changing the entire exhaust for a bit up top that you likely won't even notice.

Vlad only drives flatout

So @18psi, I heard on your recent trip down to Mexico you got your ass handed to you by a, what was it, a VW Jetta?

18psi 06-07-2018 01:57 AM

lol

Yep, got schooled by the newest version gold GTI. I was truly impressed. It has full bolt ons including larger turbo, 430whp, 3000lb (gutted interior) and was DSG.

Another one with similar mods was running 11.4@125 today, which again surprised me.

In other news, here's slips from today. I simply could not launch the car cleanly, spun clutch, spun tires, and bogged. Oh well, I'm no pro drag racer.

I know of some of those VW's with 500wtq.
You have a damn fast rabus. I got handed my ass by a Civic a couple weeks ago, in the last 300 feet.

Good to see you getting out there. :)

spinning and bogging

I did this today. The results.............really surprised me.
I mean, seriously I double checked everything like 6 times just to make sure because I expected drastically different results.

Blue line: 3" catless OPEN downpipe. No exhaust. loud enough to wake the dead
Green line: 3" catted downpipe, tapering to 2.5", going into a 2.75" aftermarket exhaust
Red line: 3" catted downpipe, tapering to 2.5", going into the stock catback exhaust which is only 2.25"

Ignore the spool/boost threshold, I got on it at slightly different rpm. But even still: I honestly expected DRASTICALLY different results. I'm gonna do another run in a few days just to check, but if this is legit, I'm staying on stock catback. I am in LOOOOOOVE with how quiet the car is.

z31maniac 06-08-2018 09:25 AM

Excellent. Now I know especially since I'll likely just do an OTS AA tune on the 135i, I'll do an axle-back or the BMW PE and not bother with a downpipe or midpipe.

I'm not worried about spool since all 300 torques are there at 1200rpm.

90LowNSlo 06-10-2018 12:49 AM

Run an electric cutout. have the quiet exhaust for cruising and wake the dead for racing :D That's what ima run on the miata. On a budget and I think its silly to spend $1k+ on some metal pipes O_o

(they also have boost actuated cutouts)

We should find a way to send this to Subaru marketing:

This was dropped off. He wants it to be as fast as it looks. Better have deep pockets

I'm shocked that Miata is still at your house O.o

18psi 06-19-2018 12:15 PM

he's like 2-3 hours away and waiting for someone to drive him down to pick it up lol

sonofthehill 06-19-2018 01:28 PM

Pretty sure I have raced that car, especially with number 124 gear jammers on the window. Does it belong to a guy with a grey beard? Could be a different car :dunno:

18psi 06-19-2018 01:31 PM

I'm pretty sure you have, he's from your area and usually goes to your track.
He tracks it a LOT. young guy, definitely no beard.

Those wheels are terrible, slow him down like crazy and make the car tramline and pull all over the place. Worst mod ever

sonofthehill 06-19-2018 06:41 PM

Must be a different guy than I am thinking, there are a couple white ones that year out there. I will look for him next week.

My area, pockets are probably almost bottomless.

sonofthehill 06-21-2018 07:38 PM

Ok, one last try. Does his car have a "corn fed e85 only" license plate frame?
