damn 13.1 with tune only?! Not bad sir! But yes launching and shifting is tough at the drag strip. Dunno how subaru manual are shifted (linkage? cables?) but even on my miata, it's a pain to find 3rd with stock motor mounts/stock shifter and decent power. I'm putting new motor mounts and shifter this time hoping it helps!

Yeah subaru's are not fast-shift friendly unless you just don't care and bang the gears like a mustang. And yeah, exhaust and tune, kept the tune really mild because CA91 water, I'm going to finally give it some boost and timing with e85 (which is basically what's done to my friends car that ran the 12.4@114)

I've checked my subaru dash gauge vs actual, it averages a solid 1mpg less than what the vehicle reports, sometimes up to 1.5 less.

And literally bang, thats the sound of the diff hitting things. I use it as my warning that I just shifted too fast.

it was weird, I think I felt that a couple times yesterday too.

but my main problem was the tires I have are REALLY grippy and clutch is really grabby so no matter what I did the car bogged off the line pretty hard

my best '60 was 1.91 which for an awd car is pretty weak

Best I've done in the miata is a 1.90 60' on 4yr old RE11's. but I had a clutch type LSD. I bring the revs between 7-8K and ride the clutch to about 40 mph. I think with new tires and better more predictable torque from SC, should be able to get that down a good bit, probably into twisting-off-axles territory. :party:

pretty much this. if it shows 24mpg, i get 23mpg on the tank when measured.

On the plus side, mine is knocking down TWENTY ONE MPG COMBINED since I put the new transmission in. Apparently this thing is less worn out than my old one, MPG is up! Also my outback has about 500 lbs of shit in the back I need to remove, that alone would probably buy me .5 to 1 mpg more.

The only skill is getting the car off the line, with which a bit of practice isn't very hard.

The only "skilled" drag races are top level pros, and guys that do it on two wheels....which is actually kind of fun.

My best on my R6 was a 10.97 @ 126....carrying the front through 2nd gear. :giggle:

I seriously considered the WRX after I decided the I couldn't bring myself to drop the coin on an STi. But I decided the BRZ was a better fit for what I wanted.

Who knows, I think this is my 12th/13th car in the last 5 years, so if Subaru comes out with a twin-scroll 2.5 FA version of the STi, I may go for it.

I have a dilemma.

My daily driver is a '07 Forester Sport XT with 136K miles. I've owned it since new and kept it unmodified but for '05 tail lights and a Prodrive axle-back. It's in good shape, everything works, just has some bubbling rust on one of the rear fenders and a few rock chips and door dings. My second child will be arriving very very soon and, while I could probably cart around my family with my Forester for a while longer, a van may be in my future.

My original intention when buying the car new was to get exactly the car I wanted (color, options, errr'thang), maintain and keep it until the bitter end, making the depreciation of a new car less of a concern. At the $7,000-ish that KBB and the like peg the value at, I'd just as soon stick to the original plan and keep the car for a few more years. But it's a rather unusual car and a little browsing of some of the Subaru forums suggests that my car might worth closer to $14-15,000 to the right buyer. At that price, it becomes much more tempting to sell it this summer in favor of larger, newer vehicle.

Is that kind of price range at all realistic?

I've no idea what prices are like outside of CA, but around here I'd say that thing is worth 10-12.

How many kids do you have? I ask because it always baffles me when people sell subarus for "bigger vehicles" and I can never understand why someone would want something bigger unless you have 3+ kids. We've only 1 kid though so my opinion might change later

I'd struggle to pay $10k for a car with any rust.

I agree with 18; even on the East Coast that isn't likely a 14k car.

Also, we have two kids and the convenience of a minivan with power sliding doors is just too much to pass up.

manual or auto. If a manual then you might get closer to that high number, but for a car with rust you won't get the $14k.

We'll be at two kids and one dog. With car seats, the dog is going to get relegated to the trunk, which upsets the missus. I know the Forester won't last forever, so a lot of the question is when the best time to jump ship is. Resale value over the next few years plays into that pretty heavily.

I'd say you're at the limit of that thing, but it should still work.

I dunno, I wouldn't sell it if it's still running strong, I regret selling my 08 very often. It's the perfect blend of practical yet sporty.

I'm shocked you haven't modded it more. I'd do a proper tune on it at the very least. THe difference is impressive, they just respond so well to tuning.

PS: the last one I saw sell for 17-18 was a FLAWLESS Aspen white pearl 08 Sport 5mt with some very tasteful and proper mods. It was a thing of beauty, the whole forum (i-club) was drooling over it.
