I have heard everything under the sun about octane. The general populous has no idea that its nothing more than a rating of a fuels resistance to detonation, so myth surrounds it.

edit- theres even articles written about the subject

oh, that crap. yeah, no I don't believe it.
minimum octane required to not knock is best octane.
but as you know, lots of cars will plummet timing and hose down the engine at the very hint of knock, in which case the premium indeed will cause the car to "get better mileage"

Or actually look on the many forums..........

So how are you liking the Coyote? You still going to supercharge it?

so far so good.
eventually, yes.
right now, likely not.

1st mod will likely be a flex-fuel tune. But I'm really not in a hurry at all

....

It looks like that's an automatic shifter.....

Vlad?

Did you buy an automatic mustang, Vlad?

(oh.. and... shoulda got the Camaro :P)

18psi 12-27-2015 11:33 PM

I did :) and I love it :likecat:
They're faster than the 6speeds stock vs stock and modded vs modded, and they're much stronger, and now both me and the wife can drive it. This trans is NOTHING like your typical slushbox, I am really impressed.

So far really liking this thing. (only had it for 2 days, but been driving it basically non-stop)

I considered the maro, but it's kinda ugly (only looks good at specific angles), same gas mileage despite direct injection, only a little more power, and interior visibility is basically dog crap, as well as I really hate the dash/gauges/center console layout.

None of those are deal breakers, but all together, just too much stuff that would bug me.

He's old. Ignore his blabbering.

Leafy 12-28-2015 12:04 AM

You really like the mustang auto? I mean its ok for an auto but its certainly not great. I drove a 2015 rental GT and the shifts were a bit slow, annoyingly slow on the paddles. Burnout mode is fun I guess.

18psi 12-28-2015 12:11 AM

Am I saying it's better in every way? No way.
I wasn't even looking at auto's at all, but this one was a great deal and I kept eyeing it. Then we talked it over, and with the ct200h as our other car (I'll be selling the wrx soon) I could daily the Lexus when I wanted to and save a ton on gas. And with this being auto the wife can use it when I'm using the Lex.

So I started considering it.

Then I learned about it being faster. Then I learned that it's not any heavier than a manual gt. Then I drove it.

I'll let you know if I feel the same after some time. I am brutally honest about my cars, and if something about one bothers me I will just sell it and get a different car. I'm not attached enough to any car to ignore its downfalls:)

18psi 12-28-2015 12:15 AM

oh and 2 other things:
1) yes it is lazy if you're easing off the throttle at the wrong time. once you actually figure out how it likes to be driven a lot of this goes away
2) tuning on these cars makes a world of difference. the auto trans is completely tunable

tune and tires = low 12s - high 11's at 115-117 :D

turbofan 12-28-2015 08:27 PM

Who you callin' old, Vlad or me?

Nice car for sure.

Vlad you drove the new 2016 Camaro? Tests have shown better mileage than the 'stang, but not like it's a world of difference.

The mustang is a sweet ride regardless.

Is the corvette gone then? I just started reading this thread a couple pages back.

mgeoffriau 12-28-2015 08:42 PM

What automatic transmission doesn't freak out a bit if you back off the throttle the wrong way? I thought this was how they worked.

18psi 12-28-2015 10:23 PM

Basically yes. If you are decisive, it is decisive. If you are not, it is not.

Ed,
No, just checked it out. It literally just came out so we'll see about long term mileage. So far I'm at 19.5 with nothing but stop-n-go traffic and city driving and of course can't resist getting on it at least a few times a day, this coyote 5-0 is delicious. I can't imagine less visibility than the mustang (which is already so much less than the cars I've owned so far). The phrase "feels like driving a tank" that many reviewers mention bout the 'maro is absolutely on-point.

Yes I sold the Z06. Still have the WRX, but that will get sold soon as soon as I have some free time to put it back to stock.

aidan,
Yup, old. Wann race? :giggle:

Leafy 12-28-2015 11:23 PM

You dont want to know what mileage you get driving it like a rental car while at a national racing event. At least Budget didnt charge extra for returning it with no tread on the rear tires, they were pretty spent when I got it. Their fault for ordering a rental car with line lock.

18psi 12-28-2015 11:52 PM

what quick car actually gets good gas mileage chillin at redline? lol

Leafy 12-28-2015 11:53 PM

Lol. Actually a lot of that fuel usage is from sitting idling in park with the AC cranking in 100°F+ heat or driving from one side of an airfield to the other at 10mph.

I'm starting to enjoy all the little gizmos these things have: the oem oxygen sensors are widebands, which you can have display right on the gauge cluster, the map sensor can also be displayed on the cluster and it reads/outputs boost too, there's like a dozen other gauges, apps and doodads like the track apps which show you a g-forced skidpad thing real time, there's the racing/track apps that enable line-lock and other stuff, the backup camera is actually really useful and accurate, along with the proximity sensors. The tire pressures are displayed on the cluster for each tire, etc. Remote start is really useful right now in the freezing mornings, and I'm sure I'll enjoy it in the summer to cool the car down before getting in.

Doing my research on tuning these things, and apparently the ecu is crazy complex: these things supposedly have 32 separate timing maps :eek5: and the auto is also apparently completely tune-able, so there's that much more complexity to it.

My 1st gripe about the car is the center console touch-screen: for some reason the "home" button is sometimes not responsive.

Oh and everyone goes NUTS over how the LED's and courtesy projectors look at night lol

you dont even know how much i love that my steering wheel lifts out of the way when i turn off the car.

18psi 12-30-2015 01:25 PM

Really? Why? Is it hard to get in/out of otherwise?

Braineack 12-30-2015 01:45 PM

I gotta lose weight too. Currently 34 waist and at the actual limit of the Recaros. They are super #racecar bolstered so any more girth on the sides and they'll be uncomfortable.

This kinda surprises me, since I imagine 90% of mustang drivers to be really fat McDonalds eatin MURICUUUUUH broz

Braineack 12-30-2015 02:22 PM

also the front seat will move forward if you unlatch the rear seat so when you push it forward it will actually clear.
