That's funny because I've been looking into going the catch can route and I've slowly been ordering parts for preventative maintenance. And I already have the killerb pickup. Kind of confused about the pcv routing in this car and what to do with it so I have way more reading to do.
After going through the turbo Miata chronicles like everyone else here, I really don't wanna over complicate my life. Just want to make it reliable and that's really it. I'm more than happy with 300hp at the moment.

hahaha, actually both your cars are pretty darn close to being up to snuff completely. Just a couple minor things here and there, nothing drastic.
You sir, have nothing to be ashamed of

You need to "catch" both, the VC breathers and the pcv. That's really all there is to it. Hence why many people have a 3 port aos or run dual catch cans.

I dunno, the wastegate thing made me feel pretty fucking stupid

Seems simple enough. I know I have a boost leak tester somewhere from my first WRX.

As are most Subaru related products. Get some home depot air oil seperators

Offtopic: Why the hell does everyone praise the hankook RS3s so much? I had them on my Miata and they were shit, had terrible grip, were basically useless when cold. Apparently they had an update at some point so I thought maybe I'll give them another try. Got them on my STI and they are significantly worse than the Dunlop ZIIs I had on before, still have shit cold grip, and they are so unbelievably loud even at slow speeds. They legitimately sound like offroad tires. They also inspire 0 confidence. Never again.

tl;dr fuck RS3s.

The new RS3s are way better. But really if your car can fit 17s and you want a damn good summer tire you want the GT Radial UHP1. Last forever, work well even down into the 20°Fs, grip on par with 2 generations ago 140TW tire, like an RE01R, maybe a touch better, about the same road noise and fuel mileage hit as that generation of tires. I think for the WRX size I paid $250 for a set of 4.

You have to keep in mind that one of the reasons miata folks use certain tires is because of the limited 15" sizes. When you run 17, there's lots of options.

MartinezA92 01-11-2016 11:00 PM

Yeah I was remembering that the reason I got RS3s for the Miata were because its all I could get.

Probably gonna get the rival S.

Leafy 01-11-2016 11:06 PM

hoosierstones (bridgestones) is a better choice than the rival s. Both are bad choices unless you're in it to win auto-xes.

Yeah after some research these might be a little too extreme. Probably just gonna get Z2 star specs, had them before and liked them a lot. Were way better than those paperweight RS3s.

These tires are NLA through Discount Tire. A few stores still have one or two left in the comming 17" sizes but they're not getting any more of them. They've been 'replaced' by a 500 treadwear Sentury UHP... You can ask Aidan how high performance those tires are :giggle:

Really surprisingly good.
