1 1/2" stainless line, 1/4" copper tubing with 45 PSI steam going through it (strapped to the line and then insulation over that). Caustic at 50% concentration in the tank.

Read my original post again (the answer is in it and what I wrote above). I won't give it away (any more than I have) for a bit so more people can play...

"oh crap put the fire out"
"how?!?"

At another plant (actually in SC) they lowered a part that was full of water into a 90% nitric tank.
Orange cloud of death.
Evacuated the plant.

Those kids are lucky they did not get hurt.

I pumped an acetic anhydride tank truck one time and left about 10 gallons of liquid in the hose. I pulled the hose off and all the acetic drained into a small sump. I thought it was a good idea to dump 20 pounds of soda ash into the sump to neutralize the acid. Yep, I realized how big a mistake it was when the reaction happened. Working around hazardous **** is pretty dangerous if you don't use your head.

You guys sure don't like sharing your water.
You should read the book 'Cadillac Desert'.

(I think there was even a PBS special made from it too)

On a related note, I hope everyone who voted for Jerry Brown's water bill on the last election knew that by doing so they were signing away their rights to regulate their own water usage, from their own well, under their own property.

So much cloak and dagger **** regarding water in CA and the greater southwest.

This made me rage so ******* hard. I hate the way laws are written in this state. The vast majority of the electorate just reads the law on the ballot and makes a decision right then and there. Its all about the language. Besides, if you don't own property in the state (lets say you rent) why do you care how the state regulates landowners? Screw those guys! kek.

I have bizarre political views when compared to the rest of the state so I'm not in a good position to speak to anything that goes on here. I feel bad when an overwhelming majority of the ignorant led by the dishonest is able to disenfranchise those who are not doing any harm but are unable to compete due to funding or leadership or whatever. Unfortunately that's the bulk of CA politics in a nutshell. I don't support anything that restricts anyones rights to do something they would otherwise be able to do, providing its not obviously dangerous or a public nuisance. I don't smoke dope but I'll support your right to do so. This state spends too much money trying to prevent people from doing things that just don't matter in the long run. That's just how I roll.

Yep. Its a huge good ole' boys club and it always will be. Don't let anyone try to tell you otherwise.

I should probably reign this in before it becomes a political rant

The plant was built in 1977 and retrofit would cost millions. Some of the newer parts of the plant do use electric but oddly enough we have them turned on 24x7 (just a flip of a breaker turns them on/off).

This is random, but does anyone have experience with reed switches? I want one that can utilize a relatively small (tic tac sized) magnet and be activated from ~.5 inches away with a quarter inch of aluminum between the mag and switch. I know the lower the AT number is the more sensitive it is, but I have no idea how to translate that to a rough distance. They're cheap, but nowhere around me keeps them in stock so I'd like to calculate what I need instead of using trial and error.

That really sucks that it wasn't in my county. I would've loved to take that call.

I had a lady who was locked in a parking garage for at least an hour until I told her to try pulling closer to the gate.
