Serial data is just a stream of bytes, so headphone jacks used to be quite common for communication. I had an old calculator that I used to transfer programs and play games on with friends that used a 2.5mm cord for communication.

I guess.
After that happened I take a look at the alt, and there's 3 wires coming off of it, and some genius thought they should all be spliced together into 1 big power wire.
Now I'm no pro, but something tells me that's wrong.
I asked him about it, he goes "well it's grounded by the engine, so the rest is just 12 volt sources, 12 volts is 12 volts right?"
I told him to pack up and get out.

I'm kicking myself for not taking pics. I'll ask my friend who does work for the guy to see if he can snap a few
It has Hello Kitty painted on both sides.
The guy is like 65 but has a sense of humor..........

12V is 12V
Oh I have no idea what the problem is/was or any of that, but the car did fry the microsquirt, like actually burned a piece of the board with fire.
On the impreza 6/7 the alt has one big strap as normal alts do, and a plug into the alt with 2 wires.
On this car, all 3 of those wires were spliced into 1 wire. That does not look right to me at all. lol

Oh. Yeah that's definitely not correct. If it's an aftermarket single wire alternator, then only the battery wire should be attached to the single terminal. If it's the stock alternator, then why the hell would they not put the wires where they should go.
So I had a 2011 WRX Sti come in not too long ago for the typical upgraded clutch kit/lightened flywheel combo that lots of people like to do after the car is no longer under warranty.
Now I have a 2012 EVO X in here for basically the same thing. Finally got it all apart.
Sweet jesus does the EVO seem more complicated. No wonder they stopped making them and decided to cash out of the rally war.
RWD based 4WD over FWD based 4WD all day.

Is the difference at the alternator that much bigger than it's at the battery? Seems doubtful and it makes no sense to me since its all connected by a 4/8 gauge wire.
but seriously the turd that they called the wiring harness looked like it was literally chewed up

Also I hate that it's 3500lb
Also that they spent 90% of the interior budget on the front 2 seats, and basically ignored the rest.
That engine makes real solid power though, and the drivetrain is actually brilliant under hard driving/racing. Sucks as a daily though
who knew
yes. It's like the poor mans GTR

The exhaust from DP to muffler is nothing but an unresonated straight pipe with a y joint for the electronic dump valve, and the flywheel and pressure plate where hot spotted to a literal mirror finish. Impressive glazing achieved.
I agree that the chassis seems very track/autocross focused, but it seems obvious this guy has his heart set on drag. /shrug
Oh yeah, I know interior isn't a priority on a car like that, but I mean it's BAD. The plastic is so cheap and crappy it's pretty much on par with a dodge neon or an older kia, I mean it's not even honda civic quality, which is really sayin something.
Also it's so bloated, and for no reason. Newer subaru's are bloated too, but at least they got big bulging fenders/widebody, the evo is just big.
I really wanted to get into them, because I've tuned some really nasty fast ones and I was impressed with how much easier it is to make power on them vs a subaru, but just couldn't get myself to like em.
For drag racing or street racing though, I think the evo dominates.

Oh I agree about the interior. You would think they would focus on it more, but I imagine all the techno wizadry means they were cutting costs everywhere else. It really is big, too. I guess one thing is since the interior is so ble, you don't feel so bad removing it all for caging and tracking. Plus, you drop some of that weight.
Right now I'm looking into what all is involved in bleeding this S-AWC system vs. dragging it to a dealer to have them do it after I button everything else up.
If I were in the market, I still think I'd get the STi, but this thing is certainly impressive in some areas.
