Zomg, so many joaquin jokes at work. We told a coworker he would be training a new guy named joaquin and to go find him. 10 minutes go by and he cant find him. We tell him to go to front desk and have him paged. "Joaquin to the lobby please." He comes back 15 minutes later and says, "he musta rolled out." We said, "he is coming, give him a bit. I bet he is hangin around the bahamas."

Corporations are people.

I'm allowed to own a corporation and make it do work for me, including agricultural work.

Kind where I was going.

Not that I want to destroy the institution of the modern corporation, but it would be kind of fun to petition The Supremes on a case which raises a 13th Amendment challenge.

Tell me you wouldn't find the press coverage amusing.

Actually, why the heck aren't we allowed to own slaves, anyway? I mean, I know "because constitution," but does that rule actually make sense anymore in the 21st century?

Does anyone here, play mobile games?

I've been hooked on Boom Beach for a while, much fun for down time at work. Tasks in game take a while to complete, I usually attack on lunch time

I used to play csr racing for some time. Then got hooked on real racing 3. Unfortunately my friends gave up after they realized they had no chance so i moved on the mortal kombat x (mobile). Now i got asked to try some game called dragoncity by a chick i know.

Anyways, i saw The martian. I love it. Reminded me of kerbal space program A LOT. Minimal safety and explosive spacecrafts... Everything is rigged up and ****.

I have owned the NB now for 2 years(well, at the end of the month).
Shockingly i have only needed to spend roughly $800 in maintenance on it.
Most of that was oil changes because i do the synthetic stuff every 6k. My headlight bulb that died every 3 months or so finally quit. One exhaust gasket. One O2 sensor. Both front wheel bearings which was expensive because i was lazy and just bought new hubs. Some DIY garage fixes that cost nothing.
Not bad really. But it will need pads and rotors very very soon. Which will probably put me over the 1k mark for 2 years of ownership. Oh and i've put 25000 miles on it.

The rules concerning prohibited activities on Shabbos (and the workaround thereof) are perplexing and seemingly irrational.

Because otherwise, religious practices are usually so rational?

Particularly irrational.

Have you actually read the various rules and opinions concerning the use of electricity, running water, elevators, etc? It's ok to use an electric light so long as you turned it on before dark, and then you can't turn it off but you can put a shade over it. You can't open the refrigerator if it has a light that comes on when you open the door, but you can if it doesn't. Except if your Rabbi says you can't, because opening the door will raise the temperature inside and thus cause the compressor to click on earlier than it would have otherwise. You can use an elevator so long as you don't press a button. Except you can't, because the addition of your weight causes the motor to have to work harder. You can use a computer, because writing on a computer screen is non-permanent, unless you or someone else benefits from the light given off by the screen.

Etc.

Oh yes, it's quite ridiculous alright, but is it really any more so than believing you'll be rewarded with 72 virgins for committing suicide?

I don't think "Shabbos" is the word you meant. Perhaps "Sabbath"?
Sounds like lots of mental work in order to avoid physical work.

EDIT: or were you referring to the work that non-Jewish were doing in the background to supply the electricity?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shabbat

Shabbat (/ʃəˈbɑːt/; Hebrew: שַׁבָּת‎ [ʃa'bat], "rest" or "cessation") or Shabbos (['ʃa.bɪs], Yiddish: שבת [traditional] or שאבעס [reformed spelling]) (English: Sabbath) is Judaism's day of rest and seventh day of the week, on which religious Jews remember the Biblical creation of the heavens and the earth in six days and the Exodus of the Hebrews, and look forward to a future Messianic Age.
