I mean, I will grant you that there are times when an email or a text message is the most convenient way of conveying information. But by the same token, there are also times when a realtime voice conversation is the best option. Examples here would include diagnosing a technical problem at a remote location, ordering a complex piece of equipment when one is not entirely clear on the various configuration options, telling your mother that you love her and letting her tell you all about what your niece has been up to, negotiating the purchase or sale of a non-commodity item in a time-sensitive context, etc.

I understand what he means. I'm a much better at written communication than I am oral communication. Even more so when that oral communication is stripped of context like body language and facial expressions.
This was painfully true for me as a kid. I hated talking on the phone. Absolutely hated it. After working for a year in a tech support call center my senior year of high school, I grew reasonably comfortable with it, but it's still a fairly unenjoyable form of communication for me.

And yes ^ Exactly. I can do it, but I'd prefer not. I used to have to answer the phone a lot when I worked in the lab. I got the job done, but I'm sure I'm not the most personable person on the phone.

I detest talking on the phone. I cannot fathom how or why so many people seem to have their phones glued to their ear all day. What the **** could you possible have to talk about that is so interesting? Or do people just like hearing their voices, and like others to hear them as well. Insecurity of some kind? My phone conversations are short, precise and to the point, no bullshitting. That is, when I can help it. Sometimes I get on the phone with someone who likes to ramble on and on, and then I have to pull a George Carlin.
Glad I'm not the only one! Back sometime in a place called the "90's", I used to use the phone in my house....a lot. I didn't mind sitting on it for long periods of time. But these days, I absolutely hate sitting on my mobile phone for anything more than a 'to the point' conversation. I have an incredibly hard time understanding people on the damn thing. Everyone sounds like Peanuts' parents. I would have thought that in all of these decades, someone would have stepped up to improving the quality of people's voices coming through a phone. Surely microphones and speakers are of better quality and can sound better than my VTECH cordless phone I used in 1997.

I'm forced to take and make dozens of calls a day at work and it'll range from calling in concrete to having full out phone meetings.
I usually pace, repeatedly, because I'm thinking so fast on the fly and it somehow helps. If I'm sitting down and the phone rings, I have to get up and start walking around.
The thing I hate the most is calling people looking for money. I have a tendency to get loud, quickly, so I have to keep my mouth in check when its a sensitive matter.
Texting is what I hate. **** that. Call me and lets get the conversation over with in 10% of the time it takes to text it.

I bought a few used tires from GeneSplicer a few days ago and he shipped them to my office by UPS. They were delivered back at the office today and I am out doing sales calls an hour and a half away. I was notified like this:
I just got a call from the lady at my office.
She said "You just got a big stack of tires delivered here, and... umm... they're gay."
I said, "They're what?"
"They're gay tires."
"They're slicks. They aren't supposed to have any tread on them. Is that what you are referring to?"
"No. The tires are gay. They are wrapped in rainbow colored strapping and have a picture of a half naked guy with a wrench. All of the parts guys and mechanics are laughing about it."
"Awesome!"
"It's awesome that you got gay tires from UPS?'
"Yes ma'am. It's pretty awesome."
"I've got another call. I just wanted you to know."

Aha! I haven't seen them yet. They came to the office on Friday and I never went to the office that day. I often only go to my office once a week or less. I am in outside sales and keep a flexible schedule. But I will be there tomorrow morning.

Bought a hardtop today. It's a 90, so no headliner/defrost, in red. All latches, one crack in the gel coat, 8/10 paint for being 20+ years old. It was delivered to my house (1.5 hour drive), and a PVC pipe stand was included. It has a crack in it; not sure to repair or fab one out of exhaust piping. All for $825.
Now to pick up my 175 blizzaks from the wholesaler, finish the undercoating (80% done), and I'm winter ready!

OUCH! Trying to dice 12 onions to make a big batch of caramelized onions. I had to leave the room a few times because I could no longer tough it out, and I was genuinely scared of blinding myself or causing some sort of lasting damage. Half hour later and still I can feel a little burn. **** you onion!
