Tubeless setups are always lighter than a tubed setup, assuming the same model of tire. Sealant weighs less than a tube.
Comparing the GP2KS2 to the pro one here in 25mm. the 42g weight difference. Add a few? grams for the valve stems, sealant, and heavier rim tape. I believe my giant tubes w/42mm stems were just under 100g. 20ml sealant can't weight much.
I can see the tubless being at least ~25g less per wheel. Hmm.
I carry a spare tube on longer rides in case I get a deep cut in a tire. A few times a month I see a little bit of sealant on the seat tube on one of the bikes indicating a self healed puncture.
I see that on my mountain bike tubeless tires, although some may be coming from the side walls as they seem to have pin holes in them from the factory.
I have yet to need to stop during a ride to "fix" anything, other than Dirty Kanza where I chose too light a tire and cut the sidewall.

As an ex-college rower it intrigues me, I used to ride a small amount (~100 miles a week) but that was 5 years ago. All I have planned is borrowing my dad's road bike, and getting some good bibs. My roommate is doing it with me.
The goal is to not throw up, and to not pass out. Neither of which I'm sure we are capable of.
I want/"need" to build a new bike. My current 52cm frame is too small. I want a taller headtube and less toe overlap. I'd also like to drop a lb or two from my current oldschool 9spd DuraAce Caad.
I think my budget allows:
-Carry over my current wheels and touch point/cockpit parts.
-54cm generic carbon frame ~$400
-compact crank for climbing "real hills" in Emilio's draft. ~$100
-30-32t 11spd drivetrain ~$300
Am I dumb for building a non-disc, non-through axle bike in 2017?
If I do TA discs, I think i'm looking at an extra ~$800 between the wheelset and brakes.
Probably, but I'm not sure the budget supports it. I would personally rather pedal a CAAD10 than a Chinese carbon frame at that price point. I have a friend who had an open-mold carbon frame circa ~2014ish and was not terribly happy with it.
Disc brakes for serious speeds or foul conditions makes sense if it is in your budget. Avg <20mph and only ride when it's sunny? Your silly for spending the coin on TA/Disc. Have you ever felt you need more brake?
If you're considering that CAAD10, you may also want to consider the Nashbar aluminum frames that can be had for ~$100 on sale less fork. The quality of my cannondale & spesh alum. frames are better, but not >4x better.
I want to see you drafting emilio on a $100 nashbar build.
If loosing those couple lbs is worth it do you, there are a few 'chinese carbon frameset' threads on the internet with lots of real world feedback. I would feel comfortable on a chinese frame from one of the more well reviewed sources. Or wait for a deal on ebay/online swap meet. I got my Rivet/Enve2.0 for what you'd spend on a no name chinese frame.

Sounds like you want a CX bike. If I didn't race on the road, I'm not sure that I'd have a road bike at all. Sadly, I would need Shimano road hydro and that is not cheap.

This ride is great, I have family on Vashon . Well run and a lot of fun. It isn't that hard but you will need all of your gears. I don't know your fitness level, but this ride could be a recipe for exercise injury if you hop off the couch and on an ill-fitting bike. The hills are very steep. I did it out of shape/sick and still had a fun, would do again.
Does anybody have any personal experience with chinese carbon handlebars and seat posts?
I've been wavering on some 740mm+ carbon bars for my Giant XTC29er.
I ended up buying a Forte Clutch carbon flat bar and a budget weenie Kalloy Uno7 stem. It has been awesome on the handful of local rides and was super sturdy in the race last night. I had my best finish by time gap last night and tied my best finishing position.
Losing rider weight has been a big change. I've also moved down to traditional XC tires. 2.2 Ikon and 2.1 RaRa.
Finished my first Enduro World Series race... ended up 31st (6th American). Crashed in 4 of 6 stages, but all were pretty minor and because I was pushing super hard to go fast. Maybe would have been faster to go slow but I don't like doing that Fitness was good and I felt really strong on the short 5 minute stages, but ran out of grip strength on long (14 minute) stage 4 and had to cruise the bottom half of that one. The level in the Enduro World Series is so high. You have to be a total rider. Back in the day, John Tomac was my hero. World Cup level cross-country and downhill rider.
