9,260 max vert in a single ride? Good ****, dude. Was this all road or mountain?
Dunno how I've never come across this thread. I was really big into enduro mountain bike racing before I got into cars and still ride multiple times a week. When I was sponsored (getting some free sh*t, never was good enough to get paid) I always wanted the latest and greatest, lightest, coolest flashiest bikes. Nowadays, I pride myself on riding mid-level rigs and not complaining about every little detail.
I've got a Transition Sentinel V2 for black diamond/bike park duty and a Fuji Rakan (130mm front/120mm rear) for trail rides and long days in the saddle. Both aluminum, both full 29", both mid-level only components. The Transition has Ridefast carbon wheels on it and the Fuji has a pair of carbon bars. No bling aside from that.
I did get a little vain with the Transition when I got it. I built the bike from the frame up and decided I didn't like the gloss blue paint it came in. Spent two days and nights layering and relayering multiple types of paint stripper on the frame to no avail. After two days, I got maybe 30% of the total paint off the frame. Ended up going at it with a pneumatic polishing wheel by hand, which worked, but probably took four or five hours to fully finish it. I started coarse and worked my way up to finer and finer polishing wheels, to get it as mirror-y as possible. Never again.
I haven't been on it like I used to the last couple years but I had a few years where I broke into the 400k-500k of climbing realm. That was while I was still in school and working part time though. Probably won't get to that level again. I still get a ride in with 5k of climbing about every other weekend, though.
Peak hours/miles for me was probably 2004 but I actually tossed the training log from those years. Had a 72 mile commute I did 3-4x a week and 100-150 on the weekends. Took a 5 year break from cycling and thought I would never need or want the log. Regret that.
Since taking up cycling again in earnest, peak year was 2020: all training, no races, 789 hrs, 13,400 miles. Been in the doldrums a bit since then but finally got the fire back to train and work towards another national and hopefully, my first world championship. Onward.
9260 was a 35 mile ride at my local trails. Hit every trail there, it was a doozy.
6 of the laps were 1 mile each, 500ft climbs. We've got the steeps.

Dude, hell yeah. 9k+ in 35 miles is a solid ratio. My buddies and I have always shot for the holy grail of 200 vert per mile on long rides, referred to as the "Golden Ratio" lol. What's your local trail network? Looks like you're in NorCal I'm assuming?
3k+ miles in a year is still nothing to shake a stick at either. Didn't know there were so many avid bike guys on here.
I should start using Strava again. I got busted by our local rangers for riding an illegal trail back in 2019 and ended up running from them. They wound up finding me via my Strava and Instagram and got the DA's office involved, trying to hit me with resisting arrest and fleeing an officer since the rangers are technically real law enforcement. In the end, the DA said they had bigger fish to fry and I ended up just getting banned from all Orange County parks for a year. I wish I could say the story was made up Anyways, haven't used Strava or anything of the sort since. I could put my rides on private but I just carry my little Garmin 130 with me and check the stats once I'm done riding.

Portland area. The way we've been expanding trails lately this is probably the last year I could pull off every trail in the network. Will probably have another 4k built by next fall.
Platinum ratio over here. This is the worst climb in the system. I walked about half of some of the laps lol, 32t chainring wasn't cutting it.
Oh sick, I've heard really good things about the Portland trail system from a buddy who used to live up there. Only ever rode Hood River myself. That spot was alright, nothing to write home about compared to the rest of the PNW.

Thx. Depends on schedule and how I feel. I've won XC and CX so I may skip XC at least. Marathon, RR and TT are the outdoors I haven't won so I'll probably focus on those. Been 3rd at road nats and that's the one I really want. XC and CX for worlds. Been 3rd at XC worlds and that's the one I think I have the best shot at.
In 2019 I raced Marathon,RR,XC,CX nats plus XC, CX worlds. Too many!
Damn, forgot how many subdivisions there are of road and XC. That's killer though. Lots of time spent in zone 4-5 regardless haha. Top level XC is manly. Only ever watched DH world cups until last summer when a buddy turned me onto watching the XC events. Those courses are so gnarly for the type of bikes those dudes are on.
How many events in a row was that in 2019? I burned out on racing after doing an enduro almost every weekend in Summer of 2016, and that was probably only ten or twelve races haha. Could never get myself to enjoy that bleeding throat sensation from being completely gassed mid-race run.
Aidan, somehow missed the Strava link the first time I read your post. That's a proper f*cked climb haha. I always figure you could throw a 30T on your bike but by the time you're in your granny gear, hike-a-biking is just as fast and less effort.

I have a 28t on the shelf now for next time i hate myself that much. Riding buddy who rode the whole thing was never more than 15 feet ahead of me when walking.
Because 95% of my rides are high intensity ~1hr, anything over that requires a ton of careful cramp management for some reason. That's one of the reasons I walked, different muscles so I could push the cramps away.
I know I'm just an amateur enthusiast. Kind of like the guy in the Vette at the bar (1 of 1), telling everyone how fast he is, but you're giggling with a Miata TT laugh. I was big into bikes as a kid, this feels like my 90's mountain bike and I love it. Haven't rode in 14 months but did 20 miles today 90/10 greenbelt. Was stuck as a fixey because the conversion from drop bars to bmx bars needed a different shifter coming in next week. Just feels good to stroke the pedals.
Yes, sounds amazing! Just a "for the feels" car. Has had 24k in work in the last 4 years, 14k wasn't me... :(( could have a nice Ferrari parked there lol. The Beta 390 RRS is my actual baby.
