Im sure they will interact aerodynamically, but Im not so sure thats a bad thing. Ive actually seen people build these things with the propellers overlapping with offset height like a chinhook helicopter.

If it does prove to be a problem, it would be only a simple matter of making some little extended motor mounts, making it a little bigger.

I like the autocross tracking idea. Its going to need some serious battery before thats possible though. As it is now Ive calculated it will have ~11 minutes of hover time, if its flying around it could be just a few minutes.
Eventually Ill need to get a 5000+ mAh LiPo for this sucker.

Dear god the prop wash. If your props line up just right I believe the prop wash will flip it over when you're trying to hover. Don't quote me, I'm not an aerospace engineer.

 

Dawg, just solder some magnet wire onto the SPI/reset lines of that mega8 and run it to a header->ball hard with any cheap avr isp + avrdude.

This is an interesting idea, but there's no way I'd ever fly any of my vehicles anywhere near an autocross. The liability exposure to the owner of the video vehicle would be quite staggering. I cannot imagine the operators of the autocross I attend allowing it. I'm sure the liability insurance provided by the Academy of Model Aeronautics to its members would not apply to such a case.

Additionally, if it's flying autonomously via gps, I believe it is legally no longer a hobbyist RC aircraft. Once you're out from under the umbrella regulations of the FAA for hobbyist rc aircraft you are in a world of regulatory hurt, and the FAA is not to be f**ed with.

So yesterday it flew, and it was cool and such, except for the part where it tried to cut my hand off.

Then tonight I flew it again, and it was cool and such, except for the part where one of the props broke midair and it plummeted 15 feet to the concrete below.
Good news is that theres no damage other than a few broken wires and the prop (the others survived miraculously).

No pics or vids of the first crash, but it pretty much did the same thing again today, and I got it on camera.
A prop made a break for freedom and it fell out of the sky. Good thing my Boar's Head pickle jar protected my electronics.

I am resurrecting this thread because it needs more updates, AND I want to build a Quad or Tricopter.

What are your thoughts or opinions on the KK2.0? I will *NOT* be soldering magnet wire to the legs on tiny *** ECU's. I just need some basic K.I.S.S. **** that actually works without weeks/months of study. I think my 6ch radio should be OK, not sure I need any more than that.

Also, holy **** on your motors. 1200KV + 10x4.5 props x4 something like 6lbs of thrust?? I'm looking at using 750KV motors
