What was your last day at your previous employer? AIUI (at least in CA), employer-provided health insurance is done on month boundaries. So if your last day was in July, then under those rules you'd be covered until 7/31, even if you'd finished that job on, say, 7/2. No idea if the same applies in Chicago or not.
Get well soon!
Also, bizarre that they let you keep your pants.

I mentioned this a few pages back but apparently was passed over or missed.
To a speedy recovery, Joe!

X ray this morning showed the lung re- inflating, and I can breathe a lot better. Still under suction on the chest tube, producing drainage:
I'll tell you what's weird as hell here is the cafeteria menu. I thought hospitals didn't serve **** which causes the things they treat here in the cardiac imu ward.
Biscuits & sausage gravy? Pizza? French fries? Bbq? It just keeps going...

Sorry to hear about the lung Joe, I've been through that 6 times now. Every time it's been spontaneous and took multiple surgeries + many chest tubes...Hope you get better quickly!

Get well soon Joe!
Lung catch can. LOL!
I always wondered what causes a lung to collapse.
From medlineplus.gov:
The medical name of this condition is pneumothorax.
In some cases, a collapsed lung is caused by air blisters (blebs) that break open, sending air into the space around the lung. This can result from air pressure changes such as when scuba diving or traveling to a high altitude.
Tall, thin people and smokers are more at risk for a collapsed lung.
ouch.

From medlineplus.gov:
Collapsed lung (pneumothorax)
A collapsed lung occurs when air escapes from the lung. The air then fills the space outside of the lung, between the lung and chest wall. This buildup of air puts pressure on the lung, so it cannot expand as much as it normally does when you take a breath. The medical name of this condition is pneumothorax.
Causes
Collapsed lung can be caused by an injury to the lung. Injuries can include a gunshot or knife wound to the chest, rib fracture, or certain medical procedures. In some cases, a collapsed lung is caused by air blisters (blebs) that break open, sending air into the space around the lung.
