It won't be common at their current production or their estimated sales figures.
That said, I'm more excited to see how much weight could be taken off the car, especially the front end. Power can always be added to anything. Weight and balance... |
For those of you that didn't read this on the 949 FB page:
Got a chance to drive an FR-S today. Better handing dynamics than an S2000. Easy to drive at limit like an NA or NB Miata. Rotates at will with only throttle inputs when all nannies are disabled. Surprisingly loud exhaust at full throttle but quite civil in cruise mode. Great damping, roll and pitch control. Great feeling brakes. Motor is what you would expect; Flat powerband, excellent throttle response, power about halfway between an NC and S2000. It's all about the chassis though. The composure and grip of the car on the zillion treadwear Ecopia tires is well, astonishing. On slightly larger, and sticky tires, it's gonna be like a big Miata. Grip for days and probably a lot faster on track the the numbers might suggest. |
Its cool....I know exactly how this will go. People are skeptical when non-track guys like me and Vash are saying its cool.
Then Sav or Emilio gives it a thumbs up and all of a sudden its the coolest thing in the universe and was "just discovered " :giggle: |

I love how the Toyobaru haters pounce on the numbers, like they matter. You'd have blown off the NA Miata 23 years ago, using that logic.
It's an affordable car with potential. Sure, all the scene kids are going to get them and paint the wipers yellow, but who cares? Did we stop liking Miatas because CR rusts them out? |

My buddy just got one (scion version). We crammed 4 people in it and went for a drive. It's pretty nice honestly. Engine bay is super tight though, like good luck changing spark plugs tight. Hopefully the car makes an impact in the market and other manufacturers bring out some competition.

I used this argument for the CR-Z. I hate hybrids and pretty much all hondas but I liked the fact that they tried to make a sporty car. I think any car that is designed to be relatively sporty is better than a damn appliance car.

Light, fun on the street. Not some powermonster car. Just like the Miata was meant to be. Turbo it later? Sure. But let it be what it was meant to be first, because that can stick around, through the power. I'd be buying one last week if it were 2500 lbs and had a double wishbone suspension, with a slight rear weight bias. 2700 lbs, struts and front heavy... close, but a miss. |
