But sounds like turbocharging will be difficult?

Judging by this photo of the engine bay, I'd say it'd be difficult due to the lack of space.
That being said a turbo kit will come out in less then 3 months, think about where the turbo is located on on a WRX.

I saw my first BRZ on the road yesterday!

There's a Ford/Subaru prep center across the street from the shop so we get sneak peeks sometimes.

Anyone else seen one on the road?

I saw a wrecked one just off the Turnpike a couple days ago. I wasn't able to get a pic but it was one of those moments when you pinch yourself.

And no, it wasn't a Genesis.

I'm sure there will be a lot of owners who have driven FWD their whole life and get into a schfancy new RWD Toy-baru and swap ends into a ditch and wonder what went wrong.

Saw a black one last week. Looked pretty good.

before or after they blow the head gasket?

White one at Mid Ohio last weekend. Looks much sexier in person. I didn't hate it to begin with but really like it in the flesh. A guy I work with ordered one, too. He's a BMW HPDE instructor and I can't wait to hear his impressions on track.

I'd hold out for the STI version.

I like it, but new cars aren't really my thing.

I'll get excited about these cars in 8-10 years when they are fully depreciated and I can pick one up on the cheap and abuse it!

There are just far too many other options of used cars I could buy with $25k to think seriously about a BRZ or FRS.

When it has the power:weight of a real STi, let me know.

"The future BRZ STI will feature a more powerful version of the current 2.0-liter flat-four cylinder ’boxer’ engine. The output will be raised up to somewhere in the 250 HP area (an addition of about 50 HP) thanks to the modifications made to the engine’s variable valve control system. That will also allow for an even higher rev limit of around 7,500rpm with the help of a new freer-flowing exhaust.

Next to the extra power, the new STI will also be even lighter than the standard BRZ. It will also be distinguished by a dramatic bodykit, a stiffened and lowered suspension, lighter but larger 18-inch alloy wheels, and upgraded brakes.

One downside to the BRZ STI is that there will be no turbocharged version offered. Subaru says there is no space for it in the engine bay and they are reserving these version for models like the WRX STI."

No factory turbo sucks, but you know damn right aftermarket wise a kit or two will surface.

200 nat asp power sounds pretty decent.

And that roof antenna looks frikken awesome!

Braineack 06-08-2012 04:15 PM

will the STi version have a better head gasket with that extra horsepower?

Hmm, 125 bhp/liter NA, at only 7500 rpm... Some writer have smoked something.
200 would be more normal (still efficient and decently high strung).

Perrin has a very good blog (typos and lack of proofreading notwithstanding) on their car and parts development. They are seeing reasonable power gains with different intake and exhaust setups, but seem to be limited by the ECU for now.

I've been browsing this forum and there's some good info on it for anyone that's interested.

Granted it doesn't have a killer amount of power, but think about a stock miata for a second. lol

I just love how this thing looks!
