WOW! And I thought we had a bunch of geeks here at mt.
CandlePowerForums

Yes, this forum is for flashlights. I registered and am already pondering a few buys. 1000 lumens out of 2xCR123's is just getting your foot in the door .

I started searching for a light for my Mav88 and found the forum... lots of great information... I definitely would have made a bad choice had I not found it.

Oh yeah, CPF is super nerdy. Did you find the subforum with all the custom builds? Those guys are super serious.

Nice find Sam!

I put another 200 rounds through the Shield today and had 3 fail-to-extracts. I was shooting cheap Russkie ammo but I'm still a little concerned.

Man, that M&P9L with several thousand rounds through it feels great after shooing the brand-new compact.

Seriously, this flashlight ---- is giving me a boner.

For Christmas a couple years ago, my father-in-law gave me a big'ish bedside LED flashlight (w/my name engraved on it). It takes 4xCR123's and is (or so I thought) bright as fuk... I means I THOUGHT it was a seriously awesome flashlight. It was a Frontgate Defender... apparently "Frontgate" is not a flashlight company, but more like a cross between Skymall Magazine and Home Depot. I has served me well, and will continue to be my "all purpose" home flashlight, but am learning that there is a whole 'nother world out there.

Check this ---- out...
750lumens from a single 18650 For $28? This is a production flashlight, not somebody's garage custom job.
Romisen RC-T601 II XM-L U2 2-Mode LED Flashlight 750+ Lumens

I know I'm only scratching the tip here...

I started to geek out on LED flashlights about the time China began peddling the crappy 10 LED lights to us, the kind you can buy at harbor freight for 3$ and they quit working in about 24ms. One of the HF lights I bought had something like 30 LEDs that ran off 3 D cell batteries and put out a pretty good deal of light but was impractical because of the size. Running through Home Depot one day I saw they started to carry an assortment of LED lights, one of which was the LED LENSER V2:

V2 FlashLight by LED Lenser

Puts out 95 Lumens from a single emitter, shines 180 meters, and will run 4 hours on 3 AAA batteries for $39.99. Score. That light has proven to be very durable and I've ALWAYS got it with me.

Next light I picked up was from Woot! one evening, they had a deal running on a single CREE X-Lamp 3 watt 2D cell flashlight for $5.00. I bought 3 and keep one in each car. That has also proven to be a very durable and reliable unit that runs longer with more output. They claim 120 Lumens and 14 hour runtime.

Wanting to learn a little, experiment a little, and moreover just geek out I've considered buying some of the china high power LED lights to see what you can do with them. Parts galore are available on DealExtreme and most of their stuff is fairly inexpensive. Reviews on youtube/interwebz are varied for every item, but you can do about an hours research to get a good idea of what to expect. Just haven't had the time.

I've had a few problems with my Shield after ~500 rounds:
~10 "bulging" casings that don't extract
Had to tap-out two casings
Gun will not cycle when firing, sometimes I have to push the slide forward over the hump
On two occasions rather than loading the next round, it will flip the bullet verticle and the next, unfired casing will stick out the top of the slide
The gun is insanely tight, none of the lever are easy to use:

We are talking "I deadlift 415lb and use chalk (no gloves) and I can't work the levers on this gun nor can I pull the slide back without momentum

Is it time to send this gun back or should I run more ammo through it? I don't trust my life to it and I'm about to dump it off and get a Glock 26.

samnavy 08-06-2012 08:36 AM

Quit being a bitch!

Yeah man, time to send it back. Even my PF9 wasn't that tight out of the box and it's legendary for a tight slide release.
Confirm you're still not using any brass ammo. How about cycling a case of white-box through it to see if that doesn't solve your feed problems.

pusha 08-06-2012 09:05 AM

Trey, I've told you dozens of times to get a Glock. Maybe now you will listen.

It's had 200 brass and 200 steel casings through it.

S&W is closed until 8/13, lol. They should have a nice backlog so I will never get this gun back.
